Thursday Thoughts
Mrs. Bollinger's Weekly Update 11/09/23
Hello STEAM @ Tope Friends and Families ~
HEALTHY KIDS! - We are grateful that we have FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH for all! PLEASE NOTE, that we will not turn kids away! If you DO NOT want your child to eat breakfast and/or lunch-- PLEASE MAKE SURE WE/THEY KNOW! We do have kids taking hot lunch along with their cold lunch. We also have kids taking hot lunch and then eating their entire cold lunch for a snack. If this is NOT what you want-- PLEASE ARTICULATE THIS TO YOUR CHILD. Also, PLEASE BE CLEAR with them about what their snack is and isn’t. Children should have one portion size and only one snack. Please make sure that it is healthy and fuels their mind and body. Candy and cookies are not considered a healthy snack. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR HEALTHY OPTIONS AND IDEAS. THANK YOU!
GRATITUDE - The next few weeks we will be recognizing students who are showing gratitude at school! Students will receive a GRATEFUL ticket and can come to the office for a phone call home, a selfie with me or Mrs. Wells AND we will share this on our STEAM @ Tope FACEBOOK page for “THANKFUL THURSDAYS”! (Only, if we have media consent of course!) We are welcoming November with GRATITUDE! We have a lot of FABULOUS things happening this season. Stay tuned in with Thursday Thoughts and your child’s teacher’s correspondence for more information.
PBL - Our fifth graders will be presenting their solutions tomorrow at PANEL! WE are SO impressed with ALL of your hard work! Congratulations to a job well done---Mrs. Freese and Mrs. Weatherly and KIDDOS! As a reminder, we expect that students dress professionally for this day. This doesn’t mean you need to go buy anything special. We just want to make sure that they understand what it means to be professional with representing ourselves.
THANKSGIVING FEAST- We are starting to receive RSVPs for the Thanksgiving Feast on Friday, November 17th and we are so excited to hold this event again. RSVPs are due by Nov. 11th.
READ-A-THON - Thank you for your support with the READ-A-THON! We love to STEAMIFY our school AND we LOVE supporting the A for ART with Mrs. Foster!
OUR NEXT PTA meeting is TUESDAY, November 14th at 4:15pm. We would like to announce that we have 2 winners of our gift card drawing for any parents who expressed interest in PTA during Parent Teacher Conferences. Congratulations to Deven McClure and Danica Brown! You can pick up your gift card at the next PTA meeting!
Thank you for being part of the STEAM @ Tope Family!

If you have not yet paid your child's student activity fee for the 2023-2024 school year, you can do that at the front office by check or cash. Fees are $35 and help pay for planners, Monday folders, classroom materials, field trips and other events in the classroom.
We are excited to welcome families to our THANKSGIVING DINNER Friday, November 17th. Here is the AMENDED SCHEDULE for lunch waves that day! If you RSVP’d then your child will meet you in line with your tickets. Adult lunches are not available for purchase on this day -- you MUST have a ticket. **IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE KIDDOS, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILDREN KNOW WHICH LUNCH WAVE YOU WILL JOIN.
PLEASE DO NOT PLAN ON EATING THE MEAL WITH US IF YOU HAVE NOT RESERVED AND PRE-PAID. YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN AND SIT WITH YOUR CHILD WHEN THEY ARE EATING. YOU ARE ALSO WELCOME TO BRING IN YOUR OWN FOOD ON THAT DAY.

Crossing Guard & Safety Information
Our Crossing Guards work hard to keep children and adults safe
during our busy traffic times. Please follow these guidelines.
1. PLEASE use the crosswalk at Walnut and 8th Street! Parents,
you are modeling safety for your child when you cross Walnut in the
crosswalk.
2. ALWAYS pull the car over to the curb and stop the car
completely before unloading your child. Unloading children in the
middle of the street is unsafe and irresponsible.
3. USE patience and FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION on your driving
when picking up or dropping off students. Please do not use your
cell phone when driving through our school zone.
4. ALWAYS follow the instructions of Crossing Guards. They are
working for the safety of our students.
5. Please do not drive through the ROAD CLOSED signs at 7th St.
and Walnut or at 8th St. and Walnut. This closure is by city permit
and driving through the ROAD CLOSED signs may result in a traffic
ticket by the GJ Police Department.
PLEASE HELP ALL OF OUR CHILDREN TO STAY SAFE
DURING HIGH TRAFFIC TIMES! THE SAFETY OF OUR
STUDENTS IS OUR #1 PRIORITY!
Nurse's Notes
When to stay home from school: The 24-Hour Rule!
Fever - 100.4 or greater is considered a fever! It is required that the student stays home until they are fever free for 24 HOURS without the help of fever reducing medication (acetaminophen or ibuprofen)
Vomiting & Diarrhea - The student must be symptom free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
The health office is in need of gently used tops, bottoms and underwear in sizes 7 and up, and school appropriate shoes. All donations are greatly appreciated!

PBL UPDATE
Our 5th grade students are in the midst of their PBL! Their problem solving statement is ~
How can our STEAM @Tope community contribute to the cause of protecting the Dolores River Canyon Country?
Right now, 5th graders are learning about the problem through field experience and experts in the field. They are quickly transitioning into experts in the field and will soon be considering creating their own solutions to this problem! We look forward to seeing their innovative solutions come to fruition!
Students are all working to prepare their solution for PANEL, which is happening November 10th. We are so excited to see what they have come up with!!
DID YOU KNOW?
Students who have frequent opportunities to engage in science tend to have high perceptions of belonging both within their classroom and outside.
Students are hypothesized to solidify their identity as a “science person” by 2nd grade.
