A Monthly Update for Meadow Ridge Families

Principal's Message - February 2021

Hello, Jaguar Families!

The sun is shining absolutely brilliantly as I write this note to you all. I realize Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Groundhog Day this year, indicating we are supposed to have another six weeks of winter. However, as I see the school grounds awash in sunshine with a gorgeous blue sky above, I am increasingly convinced we shouldn't give Phil's "prediction" another thought! It is easy to envision green grass sprouting and new leaves working hard to pop out of their winter slumber....until I lay eyes on the massive snow pile that remains in our parking lot. Ugh. Perhaps my rose-colored glasses need some adjustment! ;)

While it remains a mystery if we will see any early signs of spring this month, I can say with conviction that we will see amazing things from our Jaguars in February! This month, teachers get to meet with families (virtually, of course) and share about all of the learning and growth we are seeing in students thus far. It is also a great time to make sure we are working as team, between home and school, to ensure students are set up for success. I encourage you, as parents and guardians, to take some time ahead of conferences to think of any questions you might have for your child's teacher or make note of any information you want to pass along to them during the dedicated time conferences provide. You will find more information about signing up for a conference later in this newsletter.

Despite my initial thoughts that this would be a somewhat less "newsy" newsletter, there is actually quite a bit of information in the sections that follow. Thank you for taking some time to peruse the notes I have shared here...I truly appreciate the time you all invest in reading about what is happening here at Meadow Ridge!

Happy February!

It's been almost a year since the world changed, and while I know that we can all feel weary at different times, I still see joy here. Faces smile behind masks, kids laugh, happy voices get too noisy sometimes, and the sun rises. Even the longest day has only 24 hours, and the longest hour has only 60 minutes. We press forward, and I encourage the kids to do the same. For some of our students, coming to school while older siblings get to learn from home, can be especially challenging, but I remind them, we work hard during the day, and at night we get to quit and be with the ones we love. Whether our Jaguars are learning from home or in person at Meadow Ridge, we are a community, stronger together. And I am grateful.

Please let me know if you need anything ( In the meantime, stay kind, be brave, and remember...we can do hard things.

Student Drop-Off Reminder

We are seeing an increase in the number of folks dropping off students in the back parking lot/bus loop. As a reminder, the only location for student drop off is in the front of the school. The back parking lot is for staff only and for our school buses to drop off/pick up students. We have had several bus drivers alert us to unsafe instances of children walking in between buses, as well as cars/trucks blocking buses at the curbside. Thank you for observing our rules and keeping kids and drivers safe!

Daily Health Attestation/Symptom Check Survey

While we have enjoyed a pretty decent success rate with our Health Attestation technology, there are days in which a glitch prevents the link from being sent out to families. If this happens, you are always able to head over to our Meadow Ridge website here OR the district website here to complete the health attestation/symptom check for your child. Having this process complete before midnight each night will greatly reduce the disruption to your child's entry process each morning. Thank you for your support!

Conferences Are Coming!

With the end of the first semester quickly approaching, it is now time to be thinking about conferences. This round of conferences is an exciting one for us, as we get to share the growth we have seen in our students! Starting on Monday, February 8th at 5am, you may click this link to schedule a conference with your child's teacher. All conferences will be virtual this year, with a Zoom link provided by teachers. We look forward to meeting with you soon!

Personal Safety Lessons

We will be teaching our personal safety lessons in grades K-4 from March 1st through March 5th. Second Step is the curriculum we have been using for several years, and will continue to use this year. You will have access online to materials and Home Links that will help you understand what your child is learning about safety at school to give your child another chance to practice safety skills. You may use the link and activation key in this family letter if you would like to preview the materials. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

February PAWS Awards

Hot cocoa for PAWS award winners is back! Student names will be drawn for PAWS awards on Tuesday morning and they will enjoy some delicious hot cocoa with all of the fixings that afternoon. As always, we love celebrating our PAWSOME Jaguars!
