EAGLE SOAR
OCTOBER 1, 2021
VANWAGNEN NEWS
Between September 20th and 24th, we had a special week filled with megaphones, & Spirit Sticks, Golden Eagle pride and lots of school spirit! Using the High School's theme of Hollywood, all classroom participated in an impressive Locker-Decorating Contest. The competition was fierce, with the winning teams earning extra recess, sweet treats or a classroom pizza party! Students also enjoyed an outdoor assembly with special guests. We are so grateful the varsity cheerleaders and football players could join us for a fun-filled event. We had such a fantastic week highlighting our Eagle spirit!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello from the Counselor’s Corner! With Parent-Teacher Conferences just around the corner, I wanted to provide some tips on how to connect school to home. Sometimes it is hard to get your child to open up about their school day. When asked, it is not at all uncommon for students to respond with, “I’m fine.” Some ideas to help with talking to your child about their school day are:
Give them some time to decompress. You may get a fuller response after they have had a chance to eat a snack and relax for a bit.
Ask open ended questions. Some examples are “What’s the coolest thing that happened today?”, “What is the most creative thing you did today?”, “How were you helpful or kind today?”
Be fully engaged in their answer. Show them you care about their day by giving them your full attention and asking further questions.
Helping your child break down the day can be helpful to them and enlightening for you. I hope you have wonderful conferences!
Please contact me at 769-8605 or krista.schatzle@myeagles.org. if you have any concerns in which you would like to discuss with me before or during conferences.
