Get Involved: Volunteer Opportunities at Eagle Ridge Academy
Eagle Ridge Academy views parents and students as integral contributors and active participants in our school. The Academy is most successful when parents and students work together with the teachers and staff to create and sustain the best possible learning environment. To learn more about all volunteer opportunities, policy and procedures around volunteering, and see it all by season of year, please visit https://www.eagleridgeacademy.org/volunteer/.
We currently have a variety of volunteer opportunities coming up where you can lend your hands in support! High priority needs are for School Portrait Retake Day, Fall Used Uniform Sale, and PaperPie Book Fair. On our volunteer opportunities sign-up page there is a separate sign-up for our monthly Volunteer Wednesdays, an opportunity to come in one time per month to help with teacher and school projects. Our first Volunteer Wednesday is October 11. Give 5 and volunteer this school year!
Share Your Contact Information in the Family Directory
Since our school is unable to publish or otherwise share family contact information, we want to encourage families to share their contact information in the school directory via Membership Tool Kit. Doing so makes it much easier to communicate between families, share classroom opportunities, publicize grade level get-togethers, and assist one another with homework and uniform questions. Membership Tool Kit gives you control over what information you share and is available both online and as an app. Create an account here. If you already have an account, use the same link to access it through your mobile app or computer and update your family information including teacher or advisor name.
Classical Education Parent Night Wednesday, October 18
Dear Families,
As we look forward to fall break, we hope many of you are planning to join our upcoming 2023 Minnesota Classical Education Conference Parent Night The Joy of Classical Education with keynote Susan Wise Bauer. RSVP here today!
The Parent Night provides families with a unique opportunity to come together. During this event, families will hear from our keynote speaker, and also have time to connect with other families around Classical education. The evening presentation will focus on the three distinctive stages of Classical learning (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric), the ways in which those stages contribute to the education of the whole child, and the overall goals of Classical education – teaching students the pattern of learning so that they can continue to exercise it for the rest of their lives. Join us as we come together to explore ways families can work towards a shared goal of instilling a life-long love of learning in your children.
Sincerely,
Suzannah Toso
Classical Enrichment Teacher K-2
Classical Coordinator K-12

Schools of Logic & Rhetoric Uniform Clarification and Uniform Bank Donation Request
Uniform Clarification
We’ve been alerted to a format issue in our Schools of Logic and Rhetoric uniform policy that has caused some confusion. We apologize for the confusion caused and want to clarify the uniform expectation. Please note that a belt IS required with all pants and shorts REGARDLESS of whether the polo shirt is banded or not. Please ensure that your student wears a belt with the approved uniform pants and shorts.
Uniform Bank Donations Request
Our Schools of Logic & Rhetoric Uniform Bank supplies are dwindling. It’s important to have a healthy stock in a variety of sizes to keep our students in uniform throughout the day. We are seeking donations of several items including uniform polo shirts, spirit wear shirts/shorts, black leggings, shoes (either active or formal), black or brown belts, and uniform bottoms of all sizes. If you have the following items to donate or are still holding onto a uniform bank piece from last year, please email Mrs. Missy Madigan to coordinate drop-off.
Congratulations, September Pillar Award Recipients! - Missy Madigan, School of Logic Assistant Principal
CIPHER (Citizenship, Integrity, Perseverance, Honor, Excellence, Respect) is more than a motto, it’s what we strive to follow in our actions with fellow Gryphons.
The Schools of Logic & Rhetoric hold monthly Pillar Assemblies in which six students from each grade level in the Schools of Logic and Rhetoric are recognized for displaying CIPHER throughout the month. Each student is nominated for a Pillar Award by one of their teachers, who writes a short paragraph describing how the student exemplified their pillar, which is shared with the student body.
Congratulations to our September Pillar Award recipients! Thank you for demonstrating CIPHER every day and for being role models at Eagle Ridge Academy.

Notes from the Academic & College Advisor
Dear School of Rhetoric Families,
This past year has resulted in some of the most significant changes to the college planning process in decades.
Admission trends have changed around how colleges admit students.
There have been substantial changes to the FAFSA and financial aid.
Some schools have gone ACT/SAT optional, but not necessarily when they award scholarships.
Parents of High School Students in Grades 9-11:
Join us as we partner with national college expert Cozy Wittman from College Inside Track to learn how these changes may impact your family, and new strategies to consider to give your student the best opportunity to be admitted and maximize scholarships and financial aid.

The new FAFSA will be available in December 2023. Therefore, we have moved the College Bootcamp for seniors and parents to an evening in December, so mark the date and place.
- WHEN: December 5, 7:00 p.m.

AP Exam Payment Information
Students and guardians should complete this registration/enrollment together. Exam registration is a two-step process (this means two websites) and both steps (payment/registration AND College Board) MUST be completed to reserve and pay for AP exams. The entire two-step process can be completed in a single sitting in approximately 10 minutes.
Step 1: A student should reserve the exam(s) by adding themselves to the AP Classroom for all scheduled AP courses and exams in the College Board's MyAP system, with the Join Codes received from the teacher(s). This step may have been completed already at the beginning of the year.
Step 2: Complete the payment process that starts below. This is the registration payment for AP exams.
Students taking AP exams at Eagle Ridge Academy must register by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2023. There is no cost for enrolling in AP courses, but the 2024 AP exams cost $65 per exam. Courses that are in the second semester only will enroll/pay for their exams in February. Exams will not be ordered if both steps are not completed. Exam fees must be paid online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration.
