Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
I hope you have all thawed out from our cold and snowy Halloween! My daughters were not fazed by the weather when we went trick-or-treating, but I have to admit I was a bit cold after an hour!
It will be wonderful if the fall weather returns, but we do know that winter will come to stay at some point in the coming months. Please help your child select clothing that is appropriate for the forecasted weather. We do take students outside for recess if the wind chill or "feels like" temperature is sixteen degrees or higher. We encourage children to stay in dry areas if they are not wearing boots or snowpants, but this can be difficult to enforce. If your child is not wearing boots and snowpants, it may be a good idea for them to put dry socks and dry pants in their backpack. We have a very limited number of dry clothing items available in the office.
Lions Park is fortunate to be invited to the Village of Mount Prospect Veterans Day Celebration at the Lions Park Recreation Center each year. We will walk across the park where we have recess to attend this ceremony at 10:30am on Monday, November 11th. Our students will be singing a song to honor the veterans in attendance. They have been practicing the song in music class with Mrs. Koehlinger. If you have any concerns about your child attending this event, please reach out to me directly. We are proud to be part of this celebration!
We look forward to having the opportunity to meet with you later this month for parent and teacher conferences! These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for you to talk face to face with your child’s teacher about his or her academic, social and emotional growth. You can make the most of these conferences by writing down things you wish to discuss. This may include questions you have for the teacher or information you wish to share about your child. These conferences are most beneficial when sharing is done by teacher and parents. Also, if there is particular information you want from the teacher that he or she may not have at their fingertips, you could send an e-mail in advance with a heads up about what you are seeking. In addition to attending the scheduled conference with you child’s homeroom teacher, our other teachers are also available on those evenings. Feel free to contact them to set up a time to talk.
We hope your children enjoy the long weekend with no school on Monday, November 4th. Our staff look forward to a day of meaningful professional learning with the rest of the district at Lincoln.
