Greek architecture is known for its columns. There are three types of columns: Doric, Ionic, Corinthian. Other types of Greeks art include pottery, sculptures and paintings. Every city-state had a temple that was dedicated to a specific god. They went there to worship and make sacrifices. Some leaders like Pericles and Alexander the Great spread the Greek architecture throughout Europe.

We see Greek influences in architecture today in important buildings. The White House , Capital Building, Supreme Court, and the Lincoln Memorial all have columns that show Greek influences.

Greek government is a direct democracy. It is mostly ran by the citizens voting. You need to be a white male over the age of 18 so you can vote. You also have to be a citizen to vote. Almost every year they vote for a new council member by the lottery. There is slavery in Ancient Greece. There were two wars the Persian, and the Peloponnese.

We see Greek influences still today. They had term limits and we still do today. Some presidents run more than once and some get it. We have a democracy still today. Back then everyone can vote on the law, today Only the house of representatives can vote on it.

Myths are sacred texts that explain the world and man kind. Some heroes from Ancient Greece are Hercules, Odysseus, Achilles, and Persecutes. There are lots of gods but here are some of them. Zeus- God of sky, Ara- Goddess of marriage, Poseidon- God of sea, Perimeter- Goddess of agriculture, Ares- God of war, Apollo- god of archery, music, pottery, medicine, also god or the sun. Aesop, Aeschylus, Hera, and Kramer wrote mythology.

We still study Greece today. We still see Greek all around us. The Percy Jackson book series and the movie Hercules have Greek influences in them.

Socrates, Plato Aristotle, Plotinus were some people who were philosophers. One idea or belief is Socrates- his way of teaching. Socrates came up with the Socratic method and Plato wrote his philosophy in dialogues. Important questions Greek philosophers were trying to answer were: Does the universe have a purpose? Who are we? How can we be happy? What is right and what is wrong? Socrates was executed because the jury did not agree with the way he was behaving and doing things.

Doctors still use the Hippocratic Oath. We study geometry, and use lots of the same math skills today.

Only free men could play sports. Some events are running, javelin, boxing, preparation disc throw, long jump and many others. Some men, gods, and unmarried women watched the sports. They did the sports to honor the gods. Ancient Greece made statues and had parades for people how participated in the sports and everyone though that they were heroes.

We still have the Olympic games today and we have most of the events today too. We have horse racing at fairs also.
