QUOTES OF THE WEEK WE SHARED WITH OUR STUDENTS

A RECAP OF TWO BUSY WEEKS AT ROSE FERRERO

The last two weeks have been extra busy here at Rosae Ferrero … besides all the learning going on in classrooms, here is a summary of some of the additional events that took place:

THE FUNKEY MUNKEY MAKES HIS TRIUMPHANT RETURN

With October being Bully Prevention Month, on Wednesday the 26th, Higher Impact Entertainment returned to Rose Ferrero, for the first time since 2019, to put on an assembly for primary and upper grade students that spoke to them regarding the 6 Pillars of IMPACT. The students really enjoyed all the fun Jerome and the Funkey Munkey brought with them from San Antonio, Texas – the games (good try, Mr. Sanchez), the dancing (Ms. Sanchez has moves!), and the jokes (like the Mind Reader that got two teachers up and dancing!). However, the students were also given great messages about “being the IMPACT” … to Impress, to Motivate, to always be Positive, to try one’s best to Achieve, to have Courage, and that we are all in this Together. Furthermore, since the messages were delivered in such a fun and positive way (and we are reminding our students what they promised Jerome and Munkey everyday), we are hoping for these messages to really take hold with our students, and we see kindness and respect spread throughout our school.

OCTOBER AWARDS ASSEMBLIES

On Friday the 28th, we held our October Awards Assemblies to continue our tradition of recognizing our top scholars for the past month. Our teachers selected their classroom’s Growth Mindset Awards winner, their Reader of the Month, their Writer of the Month (4th – 6th grades, only), and their Mathematician of the Month. Parent attendance was high – as it always is for this event – as we take the time to reward our students for the hard work they put in each and every day.

THE 2022 HALLOWEEN PARADE

On Monday morning, October 31st, we held our annual Halloween Parade, and Here, There and Everywhere were princesses, monsters, superheroes, witches, villains, chickens, werewolves, cartoon characters, military personnel, retired rock stars, and all the Houses of Hogwarts were represented. Though a bit on the cool side (it is October, after all), everyone enjoyed seeing others dressed in their Halloween best. Parents and students were also able to take group pictures in Room #26 as a part of a First-Grade fund-raiser. All in all, it was a very successful and fun event enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

SOLEDAD ROTARY DICTIONARY DISTRIBUTION

Continuing the tradition that has been going on for as long as I can remember (and beyond that), the Soledad Rotary Club was at Rose Ferrero on the afternoon of Monday the 31st to hand out dictionaries to all our third-grade students. Representing the Rotary Club was Rotary Club President (and Vice President of our School Board) Ivan Ibarra-Mora and Rotary Club member, Lorena Gonzalez. Also on hand was SUSD Superintendent Randy Bangs, who is also a Rotary Club member. During the distribution and presentation of the dictionaries to the students, Mr. Ibarra-Mora explained to the students that the Rotary Club hands out these dictionaries to students to promote literacy. He also took the time to show students many of the special features in their new dictionaries – like the longest word in the English language. Students were excited to receive this new scholarly tool, and we sincerely thank the Rotary Club for this generous contribution to our students.

Three Reminders:

1) Remember that the time changes this weekend (set your clocks back one hour on Saturday

evening).

2) Teachers: Please remember to be outside on the yard for the 10 minutes of Yard Duty you share with your Grade-level Team. Sometimes we are short Pupil Supervisors, and we are counting on your presence out on the yard to keep our students safe. Thanks.

3). Teachers: Please remember to check your mailboxes periodically – at least once before lunch. And on that note, check your email from time to time as well. Thanks.
