There's a Snake in Our Gym!
The Elmwood Park Zoo recently paid a visit to Quarry Hill Elementary School. Students met a real life African Bullfrog named Echo, a Ball Python snake named Dano, and a Chinchilla named Jerry up close and personal! Gasps of awe could be heard with each animal's surprise reveal, especially Dano's. While viewing these awesome creatures, students got to learn and ask questions about their different habitats, prey, predators, and more.
This fun, educational exhibit was funded through a Pennsbury Partners Program mini-grant that was awarded to teacher Mrs. Sandy Lopez (Quarry Hill's 2022 Educator of the Year). Thank you to Mrs. Lopez and the Elmwood Park Zoo for helping to make this awesome activity a reality!
William Penn Student Artwork Featured at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit
The artwork of William Penn 8th-grader Melody Yau will be on display at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit Student Art Gallery for the next year. Melody's piece, titled "Grand Avenue," was selected for the exhibit by Ruth Anne Schultz, Pennsbury's Art Curriculum Coordinator.
The BCIU's Student Art Gallery is designed to highlight the creativity and talent of students throughout the county. Each Bucks County school district and several nonpublic schools select one piece of student artwork to be hung in the gallery at the Bucks IU in Doylestown for one year – right alongside world-famous pieces from the BCIU's collection.
"I learned that each detail counts into creating the overall piece and that it takes a long time to cut out each piece when you need a lot of them. Each piece provides more character and precision. What I like about my piece is that I added paper pieces. It gave it more texture and appearance," said Melody.
At the conclusion of this exhibit, Melody's artwork will be added to Pennsbury's permanent art collection, which is displayed at the administration building.

Fab Lab at Makefield Elementary
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Makefield Elementary have been working hard with their SPARK teacher Mrs. Davis, along with Mrs. Romano from the Bucks County Intermediate Unit to design and create their own unique projects in a pop-up Fab Lab.
These classes have incorporated both their Science and Social Studies curricula to create regional stamps on a laser cutter, paper communities on Silhoutte fabricators, and sustainable moon habitats using Tinkercad software and a 3D printer. What a great way for students to utilize and learn more about these important pieces of technology. Keep up the great work, everyone!

Ramadan Mubarak To Our Families Who Are Celebrating!
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the most sacred month of the year for Muslims. For Muslims, Ramadan is a period of introspection, communal prayer in the mosque, and reading of the Quran. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. After the sunset prayer, they gather in their homes or mosques to break their fast with a meal called Iftar that is shared with friends and extended family. The end of Ramadan is celebrated with a three-day festival known as Eid al-Fitr, one of Islam’s major religious holidays. This year, Ramadan began at sunset on Saturday, April 2, and ends on the evening of Monday, May 2.
