FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
We find ourselves - incredibly - just one week away from our February recess! How quickly the time goes when we are in the midst of our studies, athletic activities, family gatherings, and more. I pray that the upcoming vacation provides you and your family time together in rest & leisure.
Looking to the week ahead, a few announcements and upcoming events:
Teens & Technology Presented by CCAP
The Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) will be providing a presentation for all middle school parents regarding safe teen use of technology including social media, messaging, and other elements. The presentation is free and open to all. Please RSVP by responding to the form here. I would encourage all middle school parents to attend!
STEM Club at Father Doyle!
Signups are officially live for our STEM Club for students in grades 1-4! If your child would like to participate, you can sign up by completing the form here.
STEM Club will meet once per week (on Mondays) for six weeks, beginning on Monday, March 2nd. The club will meet immediately following school from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Students will set out to solve a different STEM problem each week, and in the process will engage in a wide-range of activities including coding, green-screen movie-making, and more! And best of all? The program is completely FREE for families!
Please note that sign ups are on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a limit to the number of students who can participate in the program, so be sure to sign up soon!
FJVD Debate Club
The first meeting of the FJVD Debate Club will be this upcoming Monday, February 10th from 2:30-3:45. Debate Club is open to all students in grades 5-8. Students in the club will learn the basics of competitive debate, participate in intramural debates, and (hopefully!) have an opportunity to compete against other Catholic middle schools in a Spring debate tournament. If you have not yet signed up your child for Debate Club, please do so by completing the form here.
In addition, I hope to see many of you this weekend at our girls' (11am) and boys' (1pm) basketball games as well as the 7th & 8th Grade Pasta Dinner (6pm)!
Finally, a reminder that the Early Enrollment Discount deadline for $100.00 off tuition is February 17th, and for $50.00 off tuition the deadline is March 30th. ALL enrollment contracts are due by April 15th. Thank you for your timely response!
As always, wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable weekend! God bless, and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin

The Nurse's Corner
Recently, you have likely heard news coverage regarding the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China. Currently, there are no reported or confirmed cases in the state of Rhode Island, and it is highly unlikely that the virus would affect our student body.
Nonetheless, the Rhode Island Department of Health seeks to keep parents updated about the response to the spread of this virus. Please read the letter here from RIDOH to parents and guardians.

Volunteer Opportunities
Mrs. Jarvis is accepting donations of plastic ware and napkins that may be left over from the Thanksgiving or Christmas season. These will be utilized by students in the school lunchroom. Donations can be given directly to Mrs. Jarvis in the front office.
Fr. Doyle School is looking to participate in the First Lego League Junior Expo in March...
...but we can't do it without your help! In order to participate, we are currently asking for volunteers to coach Lego League Jr. team(s). A First Lego League (FLL) Junior team is made up of 4-6 students ages 6-10. Teams meet once per week for 1-2 hours to prepare their projects for the FLL Junior Expo. This year, teams will be using pre-ordered Lego robotics kits to build safe, happy, and healthy communities. Entries are then judged at the expo. Coaches do not need any robotics, computer, or engineering experience, and scheduling can be flexible. If you would be interested in volunteering, please contact the school! You can find more information about FLL Junior here.

Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up
Father John V. Doyle School to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
