Hello, Families!
It was a wonderful week in second grade! Please remember there is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I was fortunate to attend a professional development session today where second-grade teachers from around the district learned more about the newly-adopted reading curriculum--fondly referred to as our Readers' Workshop. Mrs. Kuerschner was our morning sub, and it was certainly nice to rejoin the children and see their smiling faces this afternoon!
This week, students have been busy with assessments. All students have completed the STAR Reading test, and some have completed the STAR Math test. I will continue to STAR Math test into next week. My hope is to be done testing on Thursday. You will be receiving a printout of your child's scores when both tests are complete.
LET's CELEBRATE!!! A week from today (next Friday), we will have our third WARM FUZZY party! The students are so excited to have, once again, filled up their warm fuzzy jar. Please join me in acknowledging their great choices!
As always (and I can't overstate this enough), PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress, or about anything school related in general. My hope is you'll always ask if there is anything you're wondering.
Please ask your child:
Math:
- You took your Unit 2 math assessment this week. How do you feel you did? (CLICK HERE for a link to the assessment).
- (Just for your information!) You will begin Unit 3: Multi-digit addition and subtraction next week. How exciting! :)
Reading:
- What books are you currently reading?
- Tell me some common sayings, or idioms, you learned. Where have you heard these before?
- Six Flags READ TO SUCCEED forms went home on Tuesday. These are due Tuesday, February 23rd.
Writing:
- You have completed an organizer (at least 1!) for your opinion writing. What character did you choose to write about? What was your opinion of the character? How did you try and convince your reader of your opinion?
- Are you continuing to work on your Young Authors writing? (Due Feb. 20)
Other:
- What was the best part of your week?
- Is there anything you would like to be different next week? What can you do to make that happen?
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me. Have a lovely long weekend!
