Body Systems PBL Immune System
By Charlie Wang
White Blood Cells
White blood cells fight infections and pathogens. There are two basic white blood cells: Phagocytes and lymphocytes. Phagocytes consume foreign particles and lymphocytes help remember previous invading germs.
Spleen Tissue
The spleen is found in the abdomen. It's role in the body is to filter out blood. White blood cells are also stored here.
Thymus Organ
The Thymus produces T-cells that fight the germs and pathogens that enter the body.
Immune System
The immune system includes the tonsil, thymus, lymph nodes, the spleen, and the bone marrow. The immune system keeps the body safe from pathogens and any foreign invaders.
Organism
An organism requires the immune system to defend to body from any harmful germs or pathogens.
Homeostasis
The immune system contributes towards homeostasis in many ways. Fever is one of them. When you have a fever, the body is trying to destroy or slow down the growth of germs by raising your body temperature. The DiGeorge Syndrome is one of the diseases that hinders the immune system. The DiGeorge Syndrome is present at birth and is caused by a small amount of immune system cells. The results are commonly occurring infections, heart defects, and characteristic facial features.
The DiGeorge Syndrome can cause facial features shown in the picture.
What the DiGeorge Syndrome looks like inside genes.
Interaction
The immune system often has to work with other body systems to keep the body safe from bacteria, pathogens, and parasites.
Digestive System
The immune system works with the digestive system. When food is ingested to immune system also helps see if there is any foreign substance in food.
Circulatory System
The immune system works closely with the circulatory system. The circulatory system transports blood and hormones. The circulatory system also transports immune system cells to parts of the body where an infection is.
Musculoskeletal system
The musculoskeletal system is very important to the immune system. Lymph, a colorless fluid containing white blood cells, is only transported around the body when muscles are used.
