A Message From Mr. Stacho
On behalf of the entire Whitney Staff, I want to take a moment to thank all the parents, students, and staff for making this an exciting year of growth and learning at Whitney Elementary. It truly takes a team effort to accomplish great things. We wish for you a very safe and enjoyable summer. We encourage you to have students spend more time playing outside and reading and less time in front of screens (phone, t.v., computer, etc.). We look forward to seeing you all in August, refreshed and ready to "Cruise Into Learning."
Have fun and be safe!
Sincerely,
Mr. Stacho

Summer Reading...
Our Strongsville Library has a great Summer Reading Program called “Build a Better World”, which begins on June 3rd. It is for all ages and promotes literacy to combat the “summer slide.” Pre-registration opened on May 1st. In addition to reading, the game also gives kids an opportunity to complete math activities. Everyone who registers can earn a coupon for a Mitchell’s ice cream cone, as well as a Chipotle coupon for reaching the midpoint of the game. Upon completion, kids earn a free book (while supplies last) and can then take another game board and keep playing until the program ends on August 5th. The "summer slide" can be prevented and I strongly encourage you to participate. Find out more here.

“Cruise Into Learning” at Whitney Elementary!
Please mark your calendar to attend
OUR ANNUAL PARENT OPEN HOUSE.
Whitney Elementary School
Parent Open House 2017
Monday, August 21, 2017
Grades 1-3 are from 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.
Grades 4-5 are from 6:45 – 7:30 p.m.
**Kindergarten will have orientation on August 22nd. Information will be sent to parents at a later date.
· Parents are to report to the GYM for a short presentation before moving to their child’s classroom
· Class lists will be posted on the school’s front doors Tuesday, August 15th at 4:00 p.m.
This evening is for PARENTS to hear from teachers about:
· Curriculum
· Grading
· Behavior Expectations
· Classroom policies and procedures
· Tips on helping at home
We ask that children do NOT attend Open House. With all the parents attending, the classrooms become full very quickly. We know the children are excited to come back to school, but we ask that parents attend without their children. This allows the teachers the opportunity to address parents regarding classroom expectations.
Please make baby-sitting arrangements for your children to help make this important informational evening a success. Supply lists are available on Whitney’s web page. Parents are encouraged to bring their child’s school supplies with them to Open House.
There is no ideal way to accommodate all families. Whether we hold Open House based on grade level or alphabet, one night or two, there are always going to be parents who have multiple children that will need to attend multiple sessions. We encourage parents with multiple children to attend both sessions, if needed.
