Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter

May 26, 2020

Hello! We hope you have been keeping cool and enjoying the Memorial Day weekend!

Here is the link to the landing page with all of the grade level remote learning plans for this week. If you would like paper copies of the student practice, please email Mrs. Sessler at asessler@sd25.org to arrange a time for pick-up.

This is the last week our teachers will be sending daily emails with remote lesson plans. Next week (June 1 - 5), in our last Splash newsletter of the school year, you will receive a link to a final remote landing page with learning activities for each day. There will not be communication from teachers and support staff next week as they will be participating in professional learning and planning for the 2020-2021 school year.

It's hard to believe we are now in the last week of school. We continue to focus on finishing the school year as strongly as we can. We are stronger when we work together! We greatly appreciate the support, care, and attention that our staff and our families are providing to our students during this challenging time!

Crazy Hair Day Video :)

Here's a little video of some of our staff on Crazy Hair Day. We hope it makes you giggle and smile!

Save this Video for a Rainy Day

... of which there seem to be many lately! This video from Mrs. Sessler is about 23 minutes long, so you might want to save it for a day when you are looking for something to do inside. It's a read aloud of Any Questions? by Marie Louise Gay. Mrs. Sessler wanted to share this special book with Dryden students because it captures the power and fun of curiosity, imagination, working together and story-telling.

Virtual Field Day Activities, June 1 - 5

Mr. Gries and other PE teachers across the district have been working together to create fun ways to play Field Day games while at home. These activities will be included on our Remote Learning Landing Page next week. Field Day has traditionally been a day when we have over 100 parent volunteers help to make this a favorite day for our students at Dryden. While we are sorely missing the children's laughter and smiles during Field Day at Dryden this year, we hope some fun can be had with your children with these activities while at home.

Summer Keyboarding Challenge

Please encourage your child(ren) to participate in the Summer Keyboarding Challenge. This is an extremely beneficial skill that students will use going forward. An email with each student’s username and password for the Typing Training site will be sent to parents the week of June 1. The link below will provide more information: Summer Keyboarding Challenge Information

Return of Tech Devices, June 1

If you received any technology during the remote learning time from your school or from the district, please plan on returning the device(s), including any case and charger, to: Dunton Administration Center (1200 S. Dunton) on Monday, June 1 between 12:00 and 3:00 pm. Please use Cypress street (the front of the building) and you will be directed to the drop-off area for your school. Someone from the district will be on hand to coordinate with you. If possible, please put the tech device in the trunk of your car so that it can be removed for you. If you have questions, please contact tech25@sd25.org.

Reverse Parade, June 3

On Wednesday, June 3 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, Dryden families are invited to take a drive past Dryden School as teachers and staff (safely distanced six feet apart) hold signs, wave and cheer our students in person one last time this school year. We look forward to wishing our students all the best and celebrating their extraordinary positive efforts in this manner! Please look for an email with specific directions later this week.

Volunteer Opportunities for Next Year

Dryden Volunteers: Because we're not sure what's happening in our schedules next week, much less next year, we are going to take a pause and wait to send out the Volunteer Opportunities Sign Up and the Room Representative Sign Up at the end of the summer. We'll let you know before that comes out.

4th Grade Parents: We are, however, going to send out the 5th Grade Volunteer Opportunities Sign Up on Wednesday, June 3 at 7pm. Many of the 5th grade activities start right away, and we'd love to have those volunteers in place.

Let's Support Our Dine Out Partners!

These restaurants supported us throughout this year, so if you're considering take out, please consider ordering from one of them! (flyer below)

Big picture

5th Grade Service Project- Journeys

Prior to Spring Break and the subsequent school closing, our 5th grade students had voted as a class to support Journeys - The Road Home for their service project.

JOURNEYS is a non-profit agency that provides shelter, social services and housing to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in 37 towns in north/northwest suburban Cook County.

Unfortunately, the kids are not at school to help collect and support this service project, but we hope to still try and show support for Journeys - The Road Home from our own homes. The PTA will be purchasing items from Journey's Amazon Wishlist, in the class of 2020's name, with any money leftover from the 5th grade gift to Dryden.

If you are so inclined, you can support this organization by purchasing items from its Amazon Wishlist. The link to the wish list is:

If you would like to learn more about the organization and its needs, please click on the link below:

Thank you in advance for any support that you may be able to provide during this time of uncertainty for those in the most need!

School Supply Packs

It's time to order your 2020-2021 School Supply Packs! We’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered with a new LOCAL company this year, Shane's Kits!

What is staying the same? Our supplier passes quantity discount savings along to us, so the kits are usually less expensive, more accurate, and more convenient than shopping on your own. And custom name labels for your supplies are included with each pack.

What has changed? You can now ship your kit directly to Dryden AND pay no shipping fee! If you order by June 12, your kits will be shipped directly to Dryden with no shipping costs. The packs will be distributed to each child's classroom - we'll let you know these details closer to next Fall - but no more struggling to school on the first day with that overflowing backpack!

What else? Mid-summer orders! If you miss the June 12 deadline, you can still order through much of the summer! Orders placed between June 13 and through August 3 will be delivered to your home. The price for the kits are the same, with a shipping fee of $9.95 per order (not per kit). Kits should arrive within 10-15 business days or sooner.

To order, click here and enter Dryden School code DRY25. Be sure to select the grade your child will be in next year. If you're having trouble placing your order, try a different browser, device, or try clearing your cache. We've gotten feedback that other sites use cookies that can interfere with the checkout process.
