General Information
Good afternoon,
We hope everybody is having a great time during this very busy holiday season. We are working hard to keep the kids focused during this busy time. We are asking that you help us by checking behind your student to make sure homework is done and work from absences are made up.
****Special note: December 18th (last day before break) is a full day of school, not an early release. Many of you are used to that day being an early release and may not have noticed the change.
Interims will be going home on Thursday.

Class Happenings
Language Arts
Eighth grade Language Arts is excited to soon reach a closing of our assigned novels (Tears of a Tiger and Alive). Students are actively reading their novels and engaging in activities centered around their reading (text connections and theme).
We are focusing on informational text and have designed an informational text day once a week to help students focus on skills needed to successfully respond to high level questions centered around informational text.
Math
Tutoring: Thursday until 3:00
Pre-Algebra: We have been focused on Slope for several weeks and how we can use slope to graph linear equations. We will be writing equations of lines next week and testing on Friday. We will be getting ready to start the math portion of the gateway project soon and will be focusing on how much the college of our choice will potentially cost.
Math 1: We are applying slope to graphing and will be looking at writing equations several different ways. We will also be beginning our math portion of the gateway project which involves the mathematics behind a business plan. Each student was given start up costs as well as production and sales figures and we will be using those to demonstrate profit and debt margins.
Social Studies
Tutoring - Due to a conflict on Monday, Social Studies tutoring will be held on TUESDAY, Nov. 10
In Social Studies, we have been hitting the Constitutional Convention and Constitution hard this quarter. Constitutional Convention projects were due on Wednesday and I look forward to reviewing the projects over the coming weeks. Any missing or late work is due by the end of tutoring on Monday, Dec. 7 (3:15) so I will have an opportunity to get late work graded before Interim Reports.
Next week, we will continue digging into the Constitution by looking at the Bill of Rights, the Preamble, and the seven basic principles of the Constitution.

Science
We are still in Chemistry, and are now concentrating on the Periodic Table and seeing the patterns. Students will get new vocabulary words (Vocab. āCā) on Monday December 7th. This will give the students not only 2 weeks of school time, but they will have break to look over these words, as well as Vocab. A and B. Remind them to use quizlet.com, look over their vocal. drawings and their notes they will receive on the Periodic Table. As always, I have a membership to Remind101. If you would like to join send a text to 81010. In the message type @mrdunag. It will send a message back with instructions on how to join. I will send texts out as reminders for upcoming quizzes, test and projects. Thank you for all you do helping your child with Science.
