Ripley Central School Elementary

News and Updates for our RCS families . . . . . 12/19/14

YOU ARE INVITED!

This year the RCS Drama Club has chosen a musical play for you, A Cinderella Christmas. Students, under the direction of Mrs. Meredith, Mrs. Kondrick and Ms. Bofinger, have been working hard not only memorizing lines, but also songs. There are quite a few group songs and the audience is encouraged to join in! There are also some solos/duets for you to enjoy. We hope to see everyone at the performance; there is a little "treat" at the end. So, come out and see what the "treat" is!

Set Design

In addition, we had a great crew of designers this fall, supervised by Ms. Jacobs and Mrs. Blair. Students in grades 4, 5 and 6 have been hard at work for months creating all of the sets and props needed for this year’s production of A Cinderella Christmas. They are very excited for everyone to come see all of their beautiful creations and hope to see you there!

You are cordially invited to come to Ripley Central School's Large Gym on Monday, December 22nd, at 6:30 PM to share in the fun of A Cinderella Christmas!

Who's washing their hands in the Health Office?

The Preschoolers! They have completed their hand washing lessons just in time for National Handwashing Awareness Week in December. Ask your preschooler about the importance of hand washing to fight the battle against germs. Washing your hands is the single most important action you can take daily to prevent the spread of illness. Parents, you can reinforce this essential skill at home everyday! This will help keep your child and everyone around them healthier this cold and flu season. Have a happy and healthy winter break!

Did you know, even if you don't have a Facebook account, you CAN find us on FB?

2nd graders inspire others

2nd graders inspired others at Ripley Central School Elementary to write letters of holiday greetings to servicemen and women. These students thoughtfully considered what our service members do to protect our freedoms!

Thank you to our Kindergarten Parents!

Kindergarten Parents gave of their time to our wonderful Gingerbread Week! We have many people to thank for their help with Gingerbread Week. We painted a Gingerbread Village in the hall (thank you Mrs. Braun), we made gingerbread hats, gingerbread stories and gingerbread houses! Parent (and grandparent/sister) helpers included Mrs. Williams, Mr. Chess, Ms. Safford, Mr. Babcock, Mr. Woodward, Ms. Meredith, Mrs. Meredith, Mr. Bennett, Mr. Pinzok, Mr. Miller, Ms. Lukasiak and as always our own special Mrs. Wilkinson! Some parents could not attend but overwhelmed us with supplies and some parents even did both. We are a very blessed school. We love our parent volunteers! Please check out our Facebook Album for more pictures of our wonderful time together!

Pine cone Science in PreK

The PreK Super Scientists made a grand discovery on Friday, December 5th, as they experimented with pine cones and water. After collecting and observing many pine cones, they wondered why some pine cones were open and others were closed. To put them to the test, they emerged pine cones in water and found that their petals began to close after a few minutes. Later the scientists rechecked them and found they were completely closed to protect themselves from the wet environment. Our grand discovery, then, was that wet weather makes pine cones close up in order to protect their seeds!

Senior Citizen Luncheon 2014

On Wednesday, December 17th, RCS hosted a program and luncheon for the Senior Citizens in Ripley. Almost 70 residents were able to come out to the school, enjoy the children singing and even join in on some carols, and share in a lovely luncheon with their family & friends prepared by our school cafeteria personnel and served by students. Sixth grade students not only served, but also shared the seven character strengths we are working on at RCS this year. A wonderful time was had by all!
