Monday Memo
December 5th-9th
General Notes
1) If you are available to volunteer to attend Info Sessions on Tuesday, December 6th from 6-7pm and Saturday, December 10th from 10-11am, please let Amanda know. You will receive fresh baked goods and a jean day in return for your good deed!
2) If you have not already completed the suicide prevention training, please do so before this Friday, December 9th.
3) ATTENTION-EDITED AND UPDATED! Please use the google form for PTO if you have an emergency and have to call out of work the night before or morning of. Remember to fill out the paper PTO form when scheduling time off beforehand.
4) To show their appreciation of all the hard work and effort of the YACS faculty and staff, YALA is sending a yoga teacher from Peaceful Warriors again this Friday after school in the gym at 4:00pm. This will be our fifth class, but YALA will offer FIVE MORE! Peaceful Warriors group also offers yoga as classroom management classes if teachers are interested. 5) Save the date for the annual YALA/YACS holiday celebration on Friday December 16th from 7-10 p.m. upstairs at the Blue Nile. Food, beverages, live music, and lots of fun will be provided by YALA.
Tuesday Tips
Join us for a fun and informative workshop with actor, writer, and producer Terence Rosemore to learn about integrating film production into your classes on Tuesday, December 6th from 3:45-4:45pm in the library. As always, YALA will provide refreshments so please RSVP to jenny@ya4la.org.
The workshop is designed to teach educators and administrators how to incorporate basic filmmaking techniques into lesson plans.
The workshop is conducive to all subjects, but particularly ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies and Conflict Resolution. Some of the benefits from film based curriculum includes; increased interest in the subject matter, a fresh perspective of the curriculum, utilizes leadership qualities, brainstorming, fosters teamwork, problem solving and communication skills.
Teachers will learn about some easy film projects and will practice making their own film.

With Celebration of Learning coming up on December 13th, we want to make sure that we display all of the creative work of our students. Please utilize all of the bulletin boards to show off the great things you've accomplished this semester.
Notes from Counseling
The counseling staff is doing "Kid Kringle" again to help students in need this holiday season. Staff who would like to participate can take a star with information about what a student needs for the holiday season and can purchase the item(s). The stars will be placed on the refrigerator in the teacher's lounge starting Monday 12/5. Anyone with questions or referrals can see Carly or Brandi.
