The Blue Whale is currently endangered because of over hunting. The whales have been killed mainly because of their huge size. Their gigantic bodies provided mass supplies of oil and meat. They became endangered in the whale hunting era, when thousands of them were hunted.

What is being done to protect them?
The blue whale is being protected from extinction through several conservation methods, such as being listed and protected under the Species at Risk Act and the Endangered Species Act. These laws protect blue whales under international law and make it illegal to kill them.
