Notes from the Teacher
Marble Party!
Our class earned a marble party for great behavior. TOMORROW (1/27/17) students may wear pajamas to school. We will watch a movie in the afternoon and I will bring a special treat. They may also bring ONE stuffed animal if they would like. Please NO blankets, pillows or slippers.
Progress Reports
These will be sent home Feburary 3. Please let me know if you have any questions!
This month's virture is Kindness. Find a way to practice random acts of kindness in our community and talk with your student about it!
We are learning...
- Use verbs to convey sense of past, present, future
- Know final –e and vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds
- Use illustrations and details to describe characters, setting, or events
We are continuing to read text that support the target strategy of Conclusions. Readers must use clues in the words/pictures and think about what they already know. This will help them make smart guesses about what the author does not tell in the text.
Math
- Recognize 10 as a group of ten ones
- Recognize that teen numbers (11-19) are composed of a tem and extra ones
- Represent groups of 10 and extra ones visually
We are beginning our work in Unit 4 with place value and understanding that 2 digit numbers are made up of tens and extra ones. Students will practice visual representations of these numbers using grouping, and drawing sticks for 10's and circles for 1's.
Writing
- Write narratives in which students recount two or more sequenced events, include some details about what happened, and provide a sense of closure
We continue to focus on how to write an introduction to a personal narrative. A first grade introduction should include who/what/when/where. We will also be adding details to our topic sentences.
Example: This weekend my family and I went to Crossroads to eat dinner. First, we sat down at a big table. Next, we ordered and I got macaroni and cheese. Last, our food arrived and we ate.
