German americans came to America hoping to find a better life in America. German americans also
do a lot of the same traditions as we do like... Santa Claus, The christmas tree, and the Easter Bunny.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, alot of europeans forced their people to follow their state religion. German americans brought food to our country like the hamburger, chocolate and much more yummy foods:)! Women were not expected to ever wear make up on there face or to wear trousers:( One traditional food is Kirschenmiche(cherry cake). Men often worked at trades or did farmwork. Women usally took care of there close family members and did alot of house work. People from Germany went to North America and sent postcards back to people in Germany saying how great life was in North Americaand should move there. Then more and more people from Germany started moving to North America.

This is some German words translated into English. There language is very different from our language, English.This language on the right, German is a normal speaking language for them just like English is normal for us.The German language is just the same to them as English is to us.

German Apple Pancakes

Ingrediants...

4 eggs

1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 pinch salt

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/2 cup white sugar, divided

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 large tart apple - peeled, cored and sliced


step 1. In a large bowl, blend eggs, flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Gradually mix in milk, stirring constantly. Add vanilla, melted butter and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. Let batter stand for 30 minutes or overnight.


step 2.Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C)


Step 3. Melt butter in a 10 inch ovenproof skillet, brushing butter up on the sides of the pan. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. Sprinkle mixture over the butter. Line the pan with apple slices. Sprinkle remaining sugar over apples. Place pan over medium-high heat until the mixture bubbles, then gently pour the batter mixture over the apples.


step 4.Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and bake for 10 minutes. Slide pancake onto serving platter and cut into wedges.

Step 5. Pick your favorite syrup and enjoy!!
