Bi-national Teacher Exchange Program Featured in Film
ESU 13’s Migrant Education Program’s Bi-National Teacher Exchange program was recently featured in a Nebraska Loves Public Schools film. Each year, the program hosts teachers from Mexico, who come for six to eight weeks to teach in our district summer schools and provide extra instructional hours to our migrant students. The program fosters pride in Mexican heritage for students of Mexican descent, and offers a unique opportunity for students not of Mexican decent to learn first-hand about another country. This year, our teachers were Rocio Sanchez, a chemistry teacher from Morelos, Mexico, and Pascacio Arturo Guierrez Aguilar, a Dance and Music teacher from Colima, Mexico. Between May 12 and July 5, the teachers reached over 750 students in thirteen schools. The Nebraska Loves Public Schools film crew captured two of those busy days in Gering Public Schools, Scottsbluff Public Schools, and Bayard Public Schools.
