Library Learning Commons at BCES
Welcome Back 2015-2016
Library Learning Commons is more than just books!
So many wonderful things happen at the BCES library learning commons. Of course we have awesome books to check out, but there is so much more! Students will have access to various makerspaces that include things such as building with K'nex, bookmark making, pixel art, coding, origami, and much more! Mrs. Johnson sees classes for all sorts of lessons including iPad apps, research using MackinVIA, reading lessons, global connections, and more. Also Mrs. Johnson is building the graphic novel section to include more books than ever. Pow! Bang! Boom! The GCISD book challenge is also changing slightly this year. Kinder-2nd graders are invited to participate! And the best part is that the students will be taking a picture in the Star Wars photo booth at the halfway point of the challenge! May the reading force be with you! Visit the BCES library website for updates and information bceslibrary.weebly.com
May the Reading Force be with You!
This year the theme for the library is Star Wars! There are lots of new Star Wars books coming out this year. Not to mention the new movie is coming out too! As Origami Yoda says, "Read you must."
No Excuses University in the Library Learning Commons
With the kick off of the No Excuses University program this year, each classroom got to choose a college or university to represent. Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Fabian chose Oklahoma State University for the library! Go Pokes!
New Furniture!
Along with the new, beautiful carpet, BCES library learning commons got all new seating! Look for our new trapezoid chairs, cylinder chairs, and bean bags! We also got new tables and chairs to house our laptops. And be on the lookout for new rugs in the future as well. The library is looking good!
Volunteers Needed
As always, Mrs. Johnson could use some helping hands in the library learning commons. All of our classes will be on a flex schedule beginning in October. That means students will come to the library in small groups for book self check out. This allows Mrs. Johnson to be able to teach classes and work with teachers more. Library learning commons volunteers will help students (especially younger students) check books in and out, help shelve books, and help with displays. The times volunteers are needed most is 8:30-10:00 AM and 1:00-2:00 PM. Please see the information below to contact Mrs. Johnson about volunteering. If you filled out the library volunteer form that went home in Monday folder, I have those :) Remember, volunteers must complete the online background check. The link can be found on the Bear Creek website.
