Week 22: February 8-12
Box Tops & Labels for Education
TCE has already collected over 8,000 Box Tops and Labels for Education this year! The winter deadline to turn in Box Tops and Labels for Education is Friday, February 19. Winners will be announced the following Friday. The spring contest will continue through May, so please continue to send your Box Tops and Labels for Education in all year! More information will be sent home in your child's green folder. Thank you for supporting our school!
Pennies for Patients 2016
Thorpe Creek Elementary students will be taking part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients program from February 1-12. During this program, students will collect money to support LLS’s mission: to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. Students will learn about service, leadership, philanthropy and how they can make a difference by changing patients’ lives. TCE has its own online giving page that students, parents and faculty can share with friends and family: http://events.lls.org/pages/in/ThorpeCreekElementarySchool
Thank you in advance for helping LLS to create a world without blood cancers!

Valentine's Day Party
The classroom Valentine party will be held on Friday, February 12 from 1:45-2:45. Kindly email email@example.com if you would like to volunteer at the party. It is TCE policy that siblings may not attend. Your child will not be allowed to leave with you at the end of the party. All volunteers attending must have a current background check on file and must have watched the anti-bullying video.
The children will be participating in a Valentine Exchange with their classmates earlier that day. Please send 26 Valentines for the class. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISTRIBUTE BALLOONS, CANDY, OR FOOD IN THEIR VALENTINES!!!! If your child brings a Valentine with those items, they will not be allowed to give them out to the other students. (Please do not individually address the Valentines as it takes FOREVER to pass them out - thank you!!).
We will be using Cheerios, cinnamon candies, and candy hearts for a project and take-home kit during the party. These ARE NOT for eating. If you have any concerns about this, please let us know.
Please feel free to email us with any questions!
Colleen Kilberg, and Laura Clark
TCE Cardinal Runners
Join our school team and be a Cardinal Runner!
May 21, 2016
The Geist Half Marathon Inc. is an Indiana non-profit corporation organized to inspire health and wellness in the children surrounding Geist Reservoir. Money from last year’s race was donated to HSE and Lawrence Township Schools.
If your child (or you!) would like to participate in this year’s race as a part of the “Cardinal Runners” team, please return the emailed permission slip and race fee by March 28, 2016. Our school team will be walking and running in the 5K (3.1 miles) race. The cost to participate in the Cardinal Runner team is $37.50. Please make checks payable to TCE. The registration fee for the race includes a fee of $7.50 for a “Cardinal Runners” team shirt. Let’s show our school spirit by wearing our Cardinal Runners shirt on race day! *If you have last year’s Cardinal Runner shirt, you can re-wear it. The entry fee is $30, then, without the Cardinal Runner shirt. Each participant also receives a Geist 5K shirt, refreshments at the finish line, and a medal! Additional race information can be found at http://geisthalf.com/. We will register all students and parents that participate on our Cardinal Runners team at one time, so please do not register through the website. If your child may need financial assistance in order to participate, please contact Mrs. Curran.
I will be sending home information in the spring about an optional training walking/running program at school, along with additional race day details. I look forward to running with a large group of the Thorpe Creek Elementary Family!
