Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month?
From the PTA Wellness Team: If you are like many of us, we are always on the go and away from home. The key to eating healthy while you are away from home is being prepared and making healthy choices. From having dinner at a friend's house to dropping by your favorite restaurant or fast food options, there are ways to have a healthier meal:
Tip 1: Be prepared-If you're going to a restaurant, check out their website for the nutrition content of their food items, so that you can be educated on their healthier choices.
Tip 2: Keep the portion size in mind: Restaurant portion sizes are much greater, sometimes 2-3 times the recommended serving size.
Tip 3: Hold the extras-In many cases, the extras add unneeded calories to your meal, but not any additional nutrients.
Tip 4: Keep healthy foods healthy-Salads are a great way to add vegetables and healthy foods into your daily intake. Keep them healthy by not adding foods that add extra unnecessary calories.
Tip 5: Rethink your drink-Avoid sugary drinks with limited nutritional value.
Tip 6: Be "sides" wise-Choose healthy side dishes that offer great nutritional value.
Tip 7: Be aware of how food it is prepared-How the food is prepared plays an important role in its nutritional content. Some preparation methods are healthier than others.
