Who Was... William Shakespeare?

Shakespeare was born in 1564, in Strantford-upton-Avon. he grew up to be an acomplashed author who wrote 36 plays and 154 sonnets and other poems. he married Anne Hathaway (26) when he was 18 years old. He had 3 children: Susanna, Hamnet, and Jusith. Hamnet died at age 11. He was a joint owner of the famous Globe Theatre in 1599. He died on april 23, 1616 (52nd birthday)

What Was the Globe Theatre?

The globe theatre was where Shakespeare did most of his work. It held up to 1,500 people and had no heating, so they did thier plays during the summer. This building was almost like a colleseum, it had the same round shape as one and held alot of people. Many male actors that played females died because of all the lead poisoning in makeup. in the original globe theatre, there was a fire on June 29th, 1613. The new theatre was built a year later, in 1614. It was torn down in 1644.
