GROW BUCKS PROJECT
Through a $3000 grant Mrs. Anna Laura Rogers received from Madison County Soil & Water Conservation District, she and Mr. Scott Cheyne, along with their students, have worked hard to develop the Buckhorn High School sensory garden unit - the hub for all things plants & tactile learning. #OutdoorClassrooms #SensoryGarden #LearningCommunity
A preview of the signage for the GROW BUCKS space viewable
now from inside the school, before entering from this side.
There’s also two QR codes to scan: anyone can view the hard work
and extensive processes involving students with design, research,
building, and planting. Stop by and check it out sometime!
(Left & Right Pictures): We are still seeing growth out here in the garden! Temperatures are starting to decline so it won’t be long before plants enter dormancy. Anemones, Swamp Rose Mallow, African Blue Basil, and coreopsis are putting on a show at the last minute.
(Middle Picture): The American Beauty-berries. Ours are turning purple now. 💜💚 These berries are more beneficial to bird species than they are tasty to humans. In our garden, they were chosen by students for their brilliant color in the fall. All of our plants were chosen to meet three criteria: 1) must pleasing to one or more of the senses, 2) beneficial to wildlife in some way, & 3) the plant’s native status means it adapts well to variable conditions.

MCSS Safe Schools Tip Line is an anonymous reporting hotline designed for students and parents to safely and quickly report any type of potential safety concern towards an individual or school. Sign Up to Round Up!
The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive. Estimates show that if just half of the residential Huntsville Utilities users rounded up, it would generate approximately $500,000 to support our schools! By rounding up your utility bill to the nearest dollar each month, you help invest in the future of our students!
You can easily sign up to round up online:
https://www.hsvutil.org/community_resources/programs/sign_up_to_round_up.php
It might be a penny, it might be 25 cents, it might be 99 cents, but it will be no more than $11.88 a year. It takes less than 1 minute to fill out.
Thank you for supporting one of our community partners! Go Bucks!
