No Name Calling Week (January 18-21)
Join us in celebrating No Name Calling Week beginning Tuesday January 18th to Friday January 21st. We will have different dress up days at school to encourage students to focus on being accepting of our differences. School counselors will provide guidance lessons to remind our Glenn Astronauts how important it is to be mindful and respectful of diversity.

Rising 6th Graders
Glenn 5th grade students then had the opportunity to complete course cards with their families. All 5th grade students have been registered for middle school next year! If any changes need to be made, parents would need to contact the Rayburn Middle School counselors.

Our Services
Guidance Lessons
Guidance classes are a part of Northside's Comprehensive Guidance Program in which the counselors teach students skills to enrich their educational and social emotional lives. These skills are taught to entire classes. The guidance curriculum is intended to support the objectives of academic instruction and to help students develop to their full educational and personal potential. Parents are invited to preview the materials that are used for guidance lessons during Parent Orientation or by appointment.
Guidance Lessons are intended to cover the following four skill goals:
Intrapersonal Effectiveness:
- Positive student self-concept
- Effective executive functioning skills
- Appropriate behavior to the situation and environment
Interpersonal Effectiveness:
- Effective interactions with diverse populations
- Effective and appropriate communication skills
- Recognition of personal boundaries, individual rights and privacy needs of others
- Effective conflict resolution skills
- Development of healthy relationships
Post Secondary Planning and Career Readiness:
- Motivation to succeed in personal endeavors
- Demonstration of career exploration skills
- Possession of the knowledge and skills to gather information for the purpose of postsecondary education and career planning
- Demonstration of awareness of the importance of postsecondary education
- Understanding of the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community
Personal Health and Safety:
- Incorporation of wellness practices into daily living
- Demonstration of resilience and positive coping skills
- Possession of assertiveness skills necessary for personal protection
Small Group Counseling
The counselors at Glenn Elementary will provide small group counseling pertaining to the following topics:
- Coping Skills- Students will focus on positive and healthy ways to handle uncomfortable emotions
- Anger Management-Students will learn to manage their angry emotions through theory and techniques taught in small group.
- Self-Control-Students will work on the ability to control themselves through theory and techniques taught in small group.
- Mindfulness- Students will learn various mindfulness techniques to help improve their ability to focus on the present.
Students can be referred for small group or individual counseling by parents, teachers, counselors, administrators or through self-referral. Students will not be seen in a small counseling group without the written permission of a parent or guardian. All meetings with the school counselor are confidential.
