One Week!

We at DCSS are getting all geared up for the first day of school. We are feeling the excitement and anticipation for what is sure to be a fantastic school year. If you have not already, now is the time to start getting your children back on a routine. Make sure they're getting plenty of sleep, and it's always a great idea to have them start getting up at the time they will need to for school. This will set everyone up for a successful start to their school year.

We look forward to seeing you in a week!

Warmest Regards,

Ashley Doty

Principal

Duval Charter School at Southside

Meet the Teacher!

Would you like a chance for you and your student to meet the teachers before school starts? We will have an open time for you to come in and see your child's classroom as well as meet the teachers. This is a great chance to drop off supplies if you were unable to during orientation, personally meet your child's teacher, help your child (and you) feel comfortable about where to go the first day of school, and overall, help you and your family feel welcome as partners at DCSS. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided!

When: Friday, August 21, 10am - 12pm (drop in/out anytime in those 2 hours)

Where: DCSS front office - please bring your ID so we can scan you in to the system for future convenience.

After Care / Extended Day

Afternoon Pick-up
  • We've heard your suggestions! After care pick-up will now come around the field and under the canopy. This way you can stay in your car to speed the process. Please make sure to have your car tag to ensure a faster dismissal.

Open House

Open House is an opportunity to get to know your child's teacher and gain perspective into a day in the life of your child. A few weeks into the school year, come see what your child is already learning at DCSS by sitting in their seat, meeting other families in the class, and hearing from the teacher. You will learn teacher-specific communication methods, grade level expectations, the positive behavior program, and more.

6th-7th School Open House: Thursday, September 3, 6pm

The Parent Passport

Research finds that when families get engaged in the school, student success increases exponentially. This is why we ask parents at DCSS to partner with us by volunteering each year (20 hours for 1 child, 30 hours for 2+ children). We will provide opportunities for you each quarter to help you plan your time.

Introducing, the Parent Passport! This handy volunteer calendar can be posted on your fridge so that you and family members can plan out your volunteer opportunities. This can be picked up at the PTC table at any of the orientations, or at the front office. You can go ahead and register at http://www.volunteerspot.com/ to make signing up for volunteer opportunities easy.
