Frontier Schools' Staff Appreciation Banquet
Frontier Schools hosted their 3rd Annual Staff Appreciation Banquet on May 2nd in the Student Union at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). This year’s theme was a Cinco de Mayo fiesta – including festive decorations, authentic foods, and a mariachi band! Following the taco bar styled dinner, several awards were given out to teachers and staff - including Years of Service, Teachers of the Year and District Teacher of the Year.

District Teacher of the Year: Amirah Pughsley
Amirah Pughsley was interviewed as the 2017-2018 District Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Pughsley is an Intervention Specialist at Frontier School of Innovation Middle - she shared her personal teaching beliefs, methods and techniques, what she has gained from her teaching experience, and much more in the interview below.

Career Fair at Frontier School of Excellence
The 4th Annual Career Fair at Frontier School of Excellence was held on May 18th –
this event was a huge success! More than 15 employers from the Kansas City area attended the fair and helped raise awareness about the importance of college and/or technical training. The Career Fair continues to be an informative and engaging event for students to learn more about potential careers.
A huge shout out to all the employers and organizations that attended our event - our students learned so much from you!

Home Visits
With our diverse student body, home visits are paramount in bridging cultural gaps that might exist. These visits also provide opportunities for staff to understand their students better by visiting them in their home environments. The goal is to foster a true partnership – with both students and their families.

Senior Graduation - FSHS
A special thanks to Cesar Cea, keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony. Cesar Cea is an Engineering Manager at Burns & McDonnell. He has worked in the global market with one of the top engineering firms in the world and has served on the Burns & McDonnell Diversity Advisory Committee. Cesar Cea currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and is a member of the New Frontier Educational Foundation.
Senior Graduation - FSE
A special thanks to Dr. Diana Carlin, keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony. Dr. Diana Carlin is a professor emerita and former associate provost at Saint Louis University. Prior to her five years in Saint Louis, she was a faculty member for 24 years at the University of Kansas where she also served for seven years as dean of the graduate school and international programs. Dr. Carlin currently serves on the New Frontier Educational Foundation Board of Directors.

Congratulations to the 8th grade graduates! On May 17th, FSI Middle hosted their 8th grade graduation ceremony after school for family, friends, and faculty. This was a momentous celebration for 8th graders taking their next step into high school. The graduation ceremony was followed by an after school dance for students to celebrate with their fellow graduates. Congratulations 8th graders and best of luck in high school!

Senior Parade at FSI Elementary & FSI Middle
On May 15th, a Senior Parade took place at Frontier School of Innovation Elementary and Middle celebrating and recognizing Frontier STEM High School’s upcoming senior graduation! This was an inspirational and interactive event for the younger students to see what the future has in store for them. Seniors received happy smiles and supportive high fives as they traveled through each campus.
CRLP Awards Ceremony
On May 10th, parents of Frontier School of Excellence students gathered together for a CRLP Awards Ceremony and dinner. This was a nice and intimate way for parents to show their support for their students as they accepted their end of the year awards.

On May 15th, Frontier School of Excellence hosted a Fine Arts Night, full of music and art set in a welcoming Spring time atmosphere! The Beginning Band and Step Up Band performed a variety of their favorite compositions for a full house of enthusiastic guests including family members, friends and staff. This was a wonderful event for students to collaboratively showcase their hard work from the school year!

The playground at FSI Elementary continues to bring smiles and fun to all students! Students are bursting with exciting comments!

8th Graders Visit the University of Lincoln-Nebraska
CRLP STEM Leadership Camps
The boys in CRLP visited the camp on May 11th-14th and the girls visited from May 17th-21st.
For 4 days, students were surrounded by continuous fun and learning experiences. Each camp was visited by special guests: Elisha Satterfield, Assistant Director from Wichita State University and 2nd Lieutenant Sam Samarasinghe from the United States Air Force Auxilliary Civil Air Patrol. Students learned about the new technologies in the STEM industry and how to work together effectively.
This STEM CRLP based camp is designed to develop student potential in academics, leadership, teamwork, and essential life and personal skills. Educational and recreational activities included building a mousetrap powered car, reading, wall climbing, zip lining, movies, campfires, and so much more!
