Weekly Update
San Luis Rey Elementary School
Principal's Message
April 28, 2022
Dear families,
You may be aware that we are changing our school name next year to Pablo Tac Elementary. This is a special honor to be named after an important member of the Luiseño people. The picture below shows a drawing made by Pablo Tac and depicts two Luiseño men in daily life.
Pablo Tac was a Luiseño boy from the village of Quechla which is now the San Luis Rey Mission. He was taken to Rome to study and became an international scholar. His writings were the only primary source of Luiseño language and culture at the time. His work in translating the Luiseño language helped to share his language and culture and build understanding.
If you visit the San Luis Rey Mission, you can see a display to honor Pablo Tac. We look forward to embracing our namesake and teach our students more about who he was and what his life and legacy mean to living a life of scholarship and service.
Warm Regards,
Carla Aranda Ed.D.
