Knox News!
December 2018
Welcome to December!
Hello Knox Families!
We are thankful to our staff at Knox, our community partners at Wrigley's supermarket and Wheelhouse Credit Union, the sponsor of our 2018 Knox turkey drive. This month, we have been able to make approximately 100 home visits as a Knox staff. With donations from our sponsors, we were able to support 73 current Knox students and Knox Alumni with turkeys for Thanksgiving. We thank you to all of our Knox families to opening their homes to our Knox Staff during our many home visits, strengthening our home-school partnership.
During the month of November, we celebrated Red Ribbon week, and the healthy choices our Knox students are making. Our students also participated in Student-led conferences. Thank you to all of the Knox families that joined us to hear their student share their work and successes in school. What a great turn out!
Our 5th grade friends from Baker and Valencia Park came for a tour of Knox and a special collaboration with our 8th grade AVID students. We are excited for all of our cluster 5th grade students to attend Knox next year.
We hosted 3 grade-level assemblies where we got a chance to support students taking charge of their learning. Students reviewed their CAASPP test scores from the Spring of 2017 and 2018 to set goals for themselves for this Spring. If you would like for your student to access the practice test at home, click this link, and choose the green button for the Practice Test.
During these assemblies, we also reminded our students about the following expectations:
1. Students must arrive to class on time. There is a 5 minute passing period. Students with more than 10 tardies will be on LOP.
2. The second progress report ends on 11/30. Report cards will be mailed home the following Wednesday.
3. Students must clean their lunch area and stack their trays. We recycle!
Raising Readers at Home:
All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter. Math tutoring is EVERY Tuesday in room S4 from 3:10-4:10.
Please check your child's planner nighty. They should be recording their homework assignments there.
Please log into Power School Parent Portal to monitor your student's grades.
Please remind your student to stay on the sidewalk when walking home from school. This is very important for student safety. Also, all students that ride bikes, skateboards, and scooters must have a helmet. In addition, students may not ride Bird scooters to or from campus. Per Bird Company policy, riders must be 18 yrs old.
Thank you for all of your support!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter
