HILL HAPPENINGS
Hill Elementary School ~ March 6, 2015
Wow! This week has flown by!!! Don't forget we spring forward this weekend, providing us more hours of daylight. I am so excited to hear the birds begin to chirp and see the sun shining! Warmer days are ahead.
The kids have LOVED the kick-off week to "The World According to Humphrey!" It's wonderful to hear and see their excitement. Humphrey has also been a welcomed addition to our school. Kai Lyle is taking him home this weekend and is thrilled beyond words! If you capture any moments, please send pictures my way!
We have a PTO meeting scheduled this week and Spring Conferences on Thursday. Dinner will be provided prior to conferences in the lounge. (Jimmy Johns or Subway)
I've included two articles in this week's communication. Please take time to read both of them. ~Have fantastic weekend!
Humprhey is a hit!
The World According to Humphrey
A few of the GREAT things that I noticed this week...
-Ten of our 3rd and 4th grade students auditioned for Elementary Honor's Choir sponsored by the Michigan Music Education Association back in the Fall. They will be participating in a concert on Saturday, March 21st at 2:30. If you're interested in attending please let Lisa know. (I also plan on attending and can help car pool if needed) The concert will take place at First Presbyterian Church of Okemos. A HUGE shout out to Lisa for inspiring our students and providing information about this awesome opportunity. Lisa also recorded all of their auditions and sent them in. Here are our stars: Madelynn Block, Adrianna Farrington, Hunter Martinez, Paige McArdle, Avery Miller, Selena Puzjak, Joie Relerford, Jasmine Relerford , Nina Tracy, and Allison Widmann.
-I am so proud of Rebecca. She has been working closely with Julie and observed her during Math workshop as well. Rebecca launched her math workshop this week. I am excited to see the growth that your students will make by providing this differentiation! You rock!
-Heather has done a fine job stepping in this week while Mrs. Strine is out. I appreciate all of your hard work and effort to make this as seamless as a transition as possible for our kiddos. Way to go Heather!
-A special thank you to Jeane for all of your support with Heather while Linda is out. The extra time and effort you have put in does not go unnoticed. Thank you!
-Third and Fourth grade teachers along with Lisa are working hard to implement a plan to help our students be more comfortable with the technological skills required on the M-STEP. Thank you Suzie & Jodi for putting together a very nice parent communication about "Kidblog" being used during technology class.
-Mrs. Strine's class earned Media Class of the week for exhibiting outstanding Cardinal Code behavior! Way to go!!!
-We have approximately twice as many positive office referrals as we do behavior referrals when looking at September - February data! Way to go!!!
The week ahead....

Blueberry Ambassador Club
Courtnie Church made tie blankets for the children in the Pediatric Unit at Hurley Hospital as one of her random acts of kindness. Courtnie shared that this was her favorite random act of kindness that she has ever done! Courtnie also enlisted her second grade sister, who wants to be a Blueberry Ambassador when she is in 4th grade!
All 10 of our Blueberry Ambassadors completed their 3 random acts of kindness. I am so proud of this group and the thoughtful acts that they completed. Tracy and I have decided to continue the group. We will be taking a trip to one of the senior centers to make Easter bonnets and baskets with their residents later this month.
