Saxton Newsletter 16.9.22

Thank you!

All members of staff would like to extend our sincere thanks for your messages of goodwill and support this week, including sharing your views with inspectors on ParentView. This really kept us going throughout the week and we are incredibly grateful. We don’t know the outcome of the inspection yet, but anticipate the report to arrive around half term.

School Closed on Monday

Don’t forget that school will be closed on Monday to mark the occasion of the Queen’s funeral.

Robinwood

We were delighted that the children in Maple had a wonderful time on their residential this week at Robinwood. They certainly seemed to enjoy and get a lot from all the activities.

Young Minds Hello Yellow Day - 10th October

As part of our ongoing mission to support positive mental health for children, on Monday 10th October we will be joining in with the Young Minds 'Hello Yellow' day. Children can come to school in non-uniform but are asked to wear something yellow. This could be just a pair of yellow socks, a yellow hair bobble or a full yellow outfit! The suggested donation is £1 via a Go Fund me page. Further details will follow as soon as possible.

FOSS Barn Dance

Unfortunately, the FOSS Barn Dance planned for 15th October has had to be cancelled. We hope to put other events on later in the year.

FOSS AGM - 26/9/22

The FOSS AGM has to be postponed next week due to the Queen's Funeral and bank holiday. It will now take place on Monday 26th September at 7pm in school. Everyone is welcome to attend – please come along and find out about the things that we do.

Healthy Lifestyle Session

I work in the Family Diet and Nutrition Team for Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, and we are wanting to promote a group that we are piloting in Selby District, over the October half term. It is based on Healthy Eating, snacks, portion sizes, healthy lunchboxes, exercise and Dental care. It is going to be held at Selby Library on Monday 24th October 2-3:30pm.

It is for all parents and children aged 9 months to 6 years.

School Lunches

Next week we will be on Week 3 of the new autumn lunches menu. Don't forget that the price of a school meal for KS2 children is now £2.50.

Children can still decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.

Autumn 2022 Lunch Menu

From w/c 5th September 2022 - w/c 16th December 2022. This is our new menu for the Autumn Term

Parent Volunteers

We are delighted to be able to have volunteers into schools again, and would welcome parents to help us. If you are able to give any time to us, either on an ad-hoc or regular basis, you will need to complete a DBS application. Please contact the office for more information.

Application for Pupil Absence Form

This form should be completed by the parent/carer and returned to the school as far in advance as possible and preferably preferably with sufficient notice before the first intended day of absence.
