January 2020 Newsletter

A Message From the Board of Directors

Happy New Year!

With the flipping of the calendar our eyes are focused on 2020, but I’ve been giving a lot of thought to 2019 and all that I’ve learned. It’s a bit like having my rookie season under my belt and now that it’s done, I can look at the successes, failures, and opportunities for development.

Thing is, in this job there is no off season. There is not a specific time that’s dedicated to dialing in and fine-tuning our skills. Don’t get me wrong – we celebrate, we evaluate, and we educate, but we keep moving. We concluded 2019 with a tremendously successful Holiday Gala and Annual Meeting. We had a record number of attendees and we heard wonderful feedback on the event. That said, the following week was spent in meetings for Celebration of the Lakes, the Home & Business Expo, and the Visitors Bureau. The wheels are constantly in motion around here and that’s part of what makes the role as your Chamber Director so exciting and challenging.

As I settled into this role, I learned that the Chamber was primed, practiced, and ready for more. With the support of the Board of Directors, I was charged to build upon the foundation that was laid by my predecessors and the Board of Directors that came before me. We had years of community development that built a platform for us to launch the Chisago Lakes Visitors Bureau. And while that is a separate entity, the efforts dedicated towards tourism to our area will undoubtably have a tremendous effect on our area businesses. The Chamber has also built over the years, many successful annual events. Most of those events have a seasoned committee interested in building upon what’s been done in the past and they were ready to level-up as well.

So, what is to come? I’m so glad you asked!

· Chamber Master – A robust data management software

· Website Revamp – New features for members & visitors as well as a new look

· New Networking Opportunities – Friday Fika & Chamber After Hours

· Highlight Reel – Renewed focus on building our image library to better feature all of you

· Strategic Plan Phase 2

· Evolving ideas and implementation for each of our annual events

2020 will bring us into a new year, a new decade, and a new season for the Chisago Lakes Chamber of Commerce. There has been remarkable effort spent to build this chamber to where it is today and to provide a launch pad for where we intend to go in the next few years. I assure you that your Board of Directors is excited about the direction we’re headed in and eager to pursue our goals. We are here to serve, support, and promote each of your businesses and organizations and it is an honor to do so.

Looking forward to connecting and collaborating with you in 2020!

~Katie
