St. Viator Parish School

Viator Voice: March 5, 2020

WCEA Summary Remarks

St. Viator Parish School is fully accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA). We believe that continuing evaluation and improvement of the curriculum is essential to the development of an effective educational program that promotes a lifelong love of learning. The accreditation process is more than a stamp of approval or quality assurance. It is a collaborative results-oriented school improvement process that serves as the underpinning of an effective school.

Last week, we were blessed with the return of our WCEA Visiting Team. Once we receive the final copy, we will be publishing to our school website the exceptional good news found in the team's Report of Findings.

Until then, here are their summary remarks:

"The WCEA Visiting Committee observed St. Viator Parish School as an exceptionally strong educational ministry of St. Viator Parish. The mission, philosophy, core values, and SLEs are embodied in school and are evident to a high degree in the classrooms, on campus, and within the parent community.

The Visiting Committee witnessed a loving, nurturing, and caring community focused on faith formation, academic growth, and the needs of students. It is confident the school has the resources and personnel to accomplish all of its future goals with implementation based upon strategic and ongoing action planning."

Out of the mouths of babes...

During the visit, the WCEA Visiting Team had a chance to speak to our students. In describing St. Viator, they were asked to provide one word for why they love St. Viator. The team then created a Word Art with what they said....

Our Lenten Journey begins...

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord,

“Return to Me with all your heart,

And with fasting, weeping and mourning;

And rend your heart and not your garments.”

Now return to the Lord your God,

For He is gracious and compassionate,

Slow to anger, abounding in loving kindness

And relenting of evil.

Who knows whether He will not turn and relent

And leave a blessing behind Him,

Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?

(Joel 2:12-14)

Our Junior High is Blessed with a Robust Campus Ministry...

Each month, our Junior High students participate in a Campus Ministry retreat in the Parish Center. The themes are tied to Faith in Action, morality, and social justice.

This past week, our 8th grade students were challenged with:

  • Why do you think the Apostle Paul chose to compare the church to a body?
  • What does this tell us the church should be like?
  • 'But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it' (v18). What do you think you can do to play your part in the body?

The bottom line: All of us, together, are Christ's body, and each of you is a part of it.

Nevada Reading Week

D.E.A.R. SVS Students

It's about time to Drop Everything And Read!

Nevada Reading Week is next week! In 1987, the Nevada Department of Education began a statewide initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. Nevada Reading Week usually coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Many of our local celebrities, parents and community members participate in the festivities by telling stories and reading to our students. The theme for 2019-20 is "Saddle Up & Read ". Please see flyer below for more information about each day.
