Seraphina
Sera is originally from fourteenth century London. She knew Cyrus as a child, but it was a chance encounter with him at a dance that would alter her life. She was attacked by a robber, and Cyrus changed her to save her life. She loved him for centuries but his increasing mania killed her passion. Now she hates him as much as she used to love him, and she hates all he represents — the immortality and the taking of new host bodies. She’s willing to die to get away from his control.
Cyrus
Cyrus is the son of the local apothecary. Blue-eyed and blond, he’s brilliant. Over the centuries, Cyrus’ brilliance has crystallized into coldness. He’s controlling, demanding, and ruthless.
Charlotte
Seraphina met Charlotte in the slums of New York at the turn of the last century. They became good friends, and when Charlotte caught a deadly illness, Sera made Cyrus turn her immortal. A century of good times has only made them closer.
Jared
Jared is Cyrus’ muscle, the enforcer of Cyrus’ will. There is no escaping Cyrus unless you can escape Jared’s grasp.
Amelia
Amelia has always longed to be Cyrus’ favored one–and she resents his eternal love for Sera. She used to perform in the circus as a tumbler, and Cyrus was so entranced by her incredible ability to defy gravity, he turned her immortal.
Sebestian
This immortal moves behind the scenes. We know Charlotte has a massive crush on him — Seraphina urges her to go for it, even though Cyrus forbids his underlings from becoming romantically entwined.
Kailey Morgan
Kailey is a normal girl from a normal family who just happens to get in a car accident right in front of Seraphina–who just happens to be an immortal preparing for death. Seraphina attempts to save Kailey’s life, but it’s too late — she accidentally swaps bodies instead. Seraphina steps into her life and as she gets to know the girl whose body she stole, she starts to suspect Kailey was up to something — why was she down by the docks on the night she died?
Taryn
Seraphina’s plan to die is interrupted by a chance encounter with Taryn, a suicidal addict. Seraphina decides to save Taryn’s life as penance before she herself dies. Unfortunately, things go totally haywire — Seraphina ends up in Kailey’s body, and accidentally leaves Cyrus’ book of secrets behind.
Mr. and Mrs. Morgan
Kailey’s parents are worried about their daughter — she’s been hanging on the bad side of town and isn’t exactly acting like herself. Seraphina is trying to spare them the heartbreak of learning that their daughter is dead.
Bryan
Bryan is Kailey’s older brother. He’s tall, good-natured, and though he seems a little goofy to Seraphina, he’s obviously hot enough to inspire devotion from Kailey’s classmates, Nicole and Leyla. Bryan would be devastated to learn that his sister is dead and her body has been inhabited by an imposter.
Noah
Noah is the quintessential boy-next-door. He’s smart, he’s sensitive, he has awesome taste in music, and he’s devoted to his dog. Kailey never gave him the time of day, but after centuries of being possessed by Cyrus, Sera can’t help but love the way Noah looks at her with his beautiful blue eyes.
Leyla
Leyla is Kailey’s devoted best friend. She has a total crush on Bryan, but won’t make a move because Kailey wouldn’t let anyone date her brother.
Nicole
Nicole is Kailey’s rival. Seraphina isn’t exactly sure what caused the rift between the former BFFs, but she’s pretty sure Nicole’s crush on Bryan was part of it. Nicole’s look is “trust-fund hippie”, with uber-pricey duds designed to look casual.
