Powell Publisher
Week of April 13 - 17, 2020
A Message from Mrs. Garrison
Dear Powell Families,
We are excited to start next week off with Dr. Null on Facebook Live . Join us on Monday, April 13, at 6 PM. If you've missed previous Facebook Live chats, you can watch them on Facebook or the District’s YouTube Channel.
GRADES
District and campus administrators along with curriculum experts have been developing grading guidelines for the fourth nine-weeks. These guidelines provide that students will not be placed at a disadvantage as a result of the current situation and the fourth nine-week’s grade will not be lower than the third nine-week’s grade. To view the complete grading guidelines documents for elementary/intermediate and secondary, please visit our Policies, Handbooks, and Forms webpage. Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.
SOCIAL MEDIA: SHARE WITH US!
Don't forget to follow us on Facebook to tune in to our morning announcements, Hump Day Challenges, Freaky Science Friday, and Weekend Warrior Series with our Specials Team. We would love to feature the learning from home and ways your family is giving back to our community on Facebook. If you want us to feature your family or child, please post on facebook and check into Powell Elementary School. We will repost your message. You can also send the information to your child's teacher. We appreciate ALL that you do and want to share your story!
INSTRUCTION
I want to again stress that our new normal is going to take some time to adjust to. All of our lessons and district resources are listed below. Just do the best you can and reach out to our teachers and staff for help. If all else fails, JUST READ!
ONLINE TEXTBOOKS
Your child has access to our online textbooks through the CISD SSO. When your child is logged in to the SSO, the textbooks will show up as icons (Stemscopes, Pearson, etc). Log in to the SSO by going to the CISD Homepage and clicking on CISD SSO in the top right hand corner. If your child does not know their log in information, please email your child's teacher for assistance.
REPORT CARDS
Electronic report cards are available for 1st through 4th grade students for the third grading period. Please log in to your PAC account to view your child's grades. If you need to sign up for a PAC (Parent Access Center) account, please click here. If you need assistance, contact Aimee Irby at airby@conroeisd.net. PreK and Kindergarten report cards were mailed out this week.
With the holiday weekend upon us, I want to send best wishes from our entire staff. We love you and pray for your safety and well being. Please give your sweet children a hug from us.
Happy Passover and Happy Easter,
Lisa

Mrs. Nixon's Counselors Corner
The Woodlands Behavioral Health & Wellness Center Virtual Support Groups:
The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.
We are offering free support groups for adults to come together in a safe place (virtually) and discuss how they are feeling and learn strategies to cope with the anxiety, stress and depression during this situation.
We have 2 groups.
The first group is for people to openly discuss their fears and anxiety about the Coronavirus, the economic impact and get meaningful strategies to help you and those around you cope. This group will be held on Thursdays at 5 pm via Zoom.
Please join us via zoom:

The 2nd group is for parents. Your child's school has cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, and you are worried about an academic free-fall and/or a home-school free-for-all where you end up playing the homework police all day, every day — while also working from home or just managing all the new social distancing restrictions. Things are intense and you need support and guidance to help you get through. We are offering a free support group on Saturdays via Zoom to help you connect and get practical solutions that will help you through this difficult time.
