Andersen Elementary - October 2019

Messsage from our Prinicipal Mrs. Kinghorn

Dear Andersen Families,

It is hard to believe our first quarter has ended! Students have spent the first few months learning about themselves, their classmates and jumping into a new grade level. Teachers have planned engaging lessons to ensure success in the classroom and it is great to see students settled into their new grade levels and routines.

As we wrap up our first quarter we also successfully finished our first Step It Up fundraiser. Thank you to all the families and friends that donated money to our school. These funds allow us to purchase items for school, classrooms and teachers including classroom literature sets, online subscriptions and support events such as teacher appreciation week.

Our next fundraiser will be around the holidays and we appreciate your continued support.

As we head towards break I want to make all of our families aware about our students’ attendance. Since school started we have been tracking our student tardies and absences. In July we were in school for seven days and during those seven days students acquired 181 tardies and 173 absences. During the month of August students were tardy 614 times and absent 720 times. The month of September we saw an improvement with 475 tardies and 570 absences as of Monday, September 23rd.

It is imperative that students come to school each and every day and on time.

Having a good morning routine is essential for not only being successful at school but being successful in life. In order to help students get moving efficiently and out the door on time try:

  • Picking out your clothes the night before
  • Make your lunch or snack the night before
  • Plan out breakfast for the week and post it on the fridge
  • Create a morning routine as a family
  • Post your morning routine (use pictures for younger children)
  • Create a scheduled time to leave and set an alarm to get you out the door on time

We know the importance of being at school each and every day and on time. Thank you for helping us get students set up for success in and out of the classroom.

I hope you all enjoy your much deserved and needed fall break. If you are traveling or staying home and enjoying time as a family, be safe and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, October 15th.

The 2nd Annual First Responders Appreciation Assembly was a huge success.

I want to start by saying thank you to our guest speakers, Officer Cole and Andersen's own 5th Grade student Vincent P. Vincent shared with us how some first responders have influenced him to become one of them and he also recited a poem called "If You Could See What I see," written by a police officer. Awesome job Vincent!

Thank you to all the first responders that came out to celebrate with us as well the Chandler Police and Fire Department for bringing out their vehicles and equipment.

Thank you to Burrito Express for providing breakfast for all the first responders as well as everyone else behind the scenes. This event could not have happened without the help of the Andersen Community.

I hope that everyone enjoys their Fall Break!

As of SEPTEMBER 24th, Andersen Elementary had 474 tardies and 570 absences.

In order for our students to be successful in the classroom, students must report to school on time each and every day. It is difficult for the teacher and the class to build their skills and progress, if a large number of students are frequently absent or tardy. Please work hard to ensure all students are at school and on time!
