BENEFIELD PARENT NEWSLETTER

Titans United: Shining Through it All

October 29, 2021

Greetings Parents-

As we say goodbye to the month of October, we will begin welcoming the crisp, cool air that November will bring to us. In the month of November, we want to take the time to say to others that we are thankful- thankful for our parents, thankful for students, thankful for school partnerships, and more importantly thankful for all of the generous teachers that support our students through teaching and learning at Benefield. Our hope is that you are just as thankful this month for being a part of the Benefield family. Please consider taking a few minutes to write a special note or email to your child's teacher thanking them for their support, understanding, and compassion for your student. We would love to shower them with thankfulness and love this month.

During the month of November, please continue to read with your student nightly as this will improve their literacy knowledge as well as help build a literacy lifestyle for them. A love for reading comes directly from their literacy experiences, both in and out of school. Should you need support with extra books at home, please feel free to contact, Ms. Xandria McBride, our Parent Instructional Coach by emailing her at xandria.mcbride@gcpsk12.org.

As always, I thank you for partnering with Benefield for your child's academic success. It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of such an exemplary and student-centered learning community.

Honored to serve as your principal,

Mrs. Shonda Gipson Stevens

Principal

United Way Campaign

Students have LOVED being a part of our United Way Campaign this year with our dress up days and activities! Pajamas and silly socks have brightened our hallways and put smiles on our faces. Our upcoming donation days include:

  • Friday, November 12: Dress up like your favorite superhero for $1
  • Friday, November 19: Dress up like a twin with a friend for $1

All proceeds go towards United Way!

American Indian Heritage Month

Join us as we celebrate American Indian Heritage Month during the month of November. This month is a great "time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people." (National Congress of American Indians) Check at the attached picture for some ideas of great picture books!

Digital Citizenship Week

Last week, Benefield Titans celebrated Digital Citizenship Week during our Special Areas classes. Our world has never been more connected and it’s never been more important for children and young people to learn to navigate digital life as responsible digital citizens—learning how to stay safe online, find balance in their digital diet, maintain privacy, and understand the power of words and action…online, at school, and in the community.

Being a digital citizen is "the ability to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in the digital world."
