7th Grade Boys Basketball at Frankenmuth on 1/17
The 7th Grade Boys Basketball began their season at Frankenmuth on Wednesday. The Huskies fell in both games to a very skilled Eagles team. The Hemlock B team was powered by Paxton Powers’ 8 points and 4 rebounds in their loss. Cal McFadden scored 12 points in the A team loss. Mason Miller and Kaiden Knapik each added 2 points. The team reloads on Thursday at home versus Swan Valley.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Frankenmuth on 1/17
The Huskies B team came out firing in last night's games against Frankenmuth, Leading the way for the B team was Max Martinez and Roman Smith each scoring eight points. Landon Parsons, Aiden Trinklein, and Isaiah Steinert all chipped in another bucket to give the Huskies a 29-18 win. This could not have been done without the defensive presence and rebounding from Alex Rosenberg, Jayden Polom and Tristyn Church.
The A team kept the wins coming in last night’s A team game against Frankenmuth. Scoring 8 points for the night was Kellan Shultz and Blake Willman. Jacob Kasey and Cooper Gensch were both hitting shots from the outside to add to the score. And finally ramping up the defensive pressure and energy was Markus Plowden and Bentley Baumer to keep the game out of reach for the eagles. Huskies win 32-28.
7th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Swan Valley on 1/18
Both teams lost to Swan Valley on Thursday at Hemlock. The B team was defeated 4-27. Andrew Reid and Hayden Locanto-Massa each contributed a 2 point bucket for the Huskies. Dylan Roka also played with great effort, hauling in several rebounds and blocking three shots.
The A team played much better today, but lost 21-39 to Swan Valley. Cal McFadden was a defensive force, providing several blocked shots, 9 rebounds, and provided 8 points. Ethan Wenzel had a very solid game, scoring 6 points, and snatching three steals. Bo Galbraith knocked down a big three pointer to close out the third quarter. Bo scored 5 total points.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Swan Valley on 1/18
The Huskies B team brought home another win after a close game with the Vikings. Roman Smith led the team with 12 points (in only 2 quarters of play)! Tristyn Church, Jacob Kasey, Isaiah Steinert, and Max Martinez all added a bucket or two during the fast paced game. The Hemlock boys were able to close the game with key defensive plays from Landon Parsons and the outstanding rebounding from Alex Rosenberg. W Hemlock 32-30.
The Hemlock A team had a one point lead going into halftime versus Swan Valley. Leading the way was Blake Willman with 10 points and Kellen Schultz with 8. The Splash Brothers trio of Sam Dunton, Cooper Gensch, and Bentley Baumer all added to the score with their outside shooting. On their rare misses, Markus Plowden was there to clean up the offensive rebounds and Jayden Polom was there for the defensive boards. They say the score doesn’t always tell the story of the game but unfortunately this was the case for our Huskie A team who fought until the end. Huskie loss 28-38.
7th Grade Boys Basketball at Bridgeport on 1/22
The 7th grade boys team struggled against an athletic Bridgeport Bearcat team on Monday. The Huskies got into early foul trouble as well as too many turnovers. Cal McFadden had 6 rebounds. The Huskies regroup on Wednesday against the St. Louis Sharks.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Bridgeport on 1/22
Last night was just another day at the office for our Husky 8th grade A team. Sharpshooter, Blake Willman lead the team with a season high 18 points. Kellen Shultz had an outstanding offensive and defensive game with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Cooper Gensch and Sam Dunton always know when to make their shots count with clutch 3’s down the stretch. On cleanup duty was Markus Plowden with a season high 11 rebounds that helped control the entire game. The Huskies went in with confidence and control and took care of business. W42-38. Hemlock.
7th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Carrollton on 1/29
On Monday the Huskies dropped their contest with Carrollton Cavaliers. Cal McFadden scored 12 points in the game while Ethan Wenzel and Kaiden Knapik each scored 4 points in the game.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Carrollton on 1/29
It was another close game last night for our Huskie 8th Grade A team against the Carrollton Cavaliers. In the first half the Huskies forgot to wake up from pajama day, but thankfully Jacob Casey set the alarm to wake us up, nailing a buzzer beater 3 to tie the game before halftime. The second half was all effort, pride, and TEAM from our home team. Finishing with a double-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 block shots, Kellan Schultz was doing it all! Markus Plowden was right there next to him with outstanding defense and even better offensive rebounding. Coming down the stretch it came down to who wanted it more and Blake Willman decided that was Hemlock, nailling big shots and clutch free throws. He finished the game with another great performance of 11 points. The Huskies had a complete team win bringing them to 5-1 on the season. Winners, win. It is just what we do. Hemlock in another close one, 42-38.
7th Grade Boys Basketball at Nouvel on 1/31
On Wednesday at Nouvel Catholic Central, the Huskies defeated the Panthers. Cal McFadden had a huge game, scoring 26 points and hauling down 14 rebounds. Ethan Wenzel contributed 8 points and outstanding defense the entire game. Paxton O’Dell and Bo Galbraith also provided 4 points in the victory.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Nouvel on 1/31
The Huskie A team decided to have a track meet last night running up and down on the Nouvel Panthers. Blake Willman lead scoring with 10 points scoring most off of great defensive steals. Scoring 8 pure points off of jump shots, Cooper Gensch had the hot hand last night. Jayden Polom, Alex Rosenberg, and Max Martinez also added some great buckets and energy throughout the game. It was all about The Team, The Team, The Team from our boys. Hemlock beast Nouvel 42-15.

Tickets available for author event! Have you read the book "Maid"? Watched the Netflix show based on the book? If so, we're sharing author Stephanie Land will be speaking at the Midland Center for the Arts on Feb. 28; at 6:00 p.m. Her talk will be presented by the Members of First Area Credit Union & United Way of Midland. Interested in attending the event? Well, the library has a limited number of tickets available to give away (yes, for free) to anyone who would like to attend.
