From the Principal's Desk…
Hi Parents and Carers
We have really started moving through this short term very quickly. This week our students in grade three and five completed NAPLAN which was mostly online for the first time. Students approached these tests with confidence and had been well prepared by their teachers. I congratulate our students for their positive attitude and giving everything their best shot. The results will be available during term three.
Enrolments are now open for Prep 2023. If you have a child in 4year old kinder, please come into the office to collect enrolment information. If you would like a school tour to see what the prep – two students are up to in their new building, please come and see me. Also, if you know of anyone who has a student starting school next year, please get them to organise a tour. This year we have forty-one prep students, and our aim is to repeat that next year.
As I mentioned in my Dojo message on the weekend, we have quite a lot of Covid cases in the school at the moment. This includes staff as well as students. If you have any form of symptoms in the household, please use the RATs and let the office or me know of any positive results. Please DO NOT send any child that has cold, flu or COVID symptoms to school.
On Friday we are running a whole school fundraiser organised by our Junior School Council. We will be supporting ‘Do it for Dolly Day’ – creating a kinder and safer world for Australian kids and communities. Everyone is encouraged to participate by wearing blue and making a gold coin donation.
We are also holding a special assembly on Friday at 2:30pm to launch the Let’s Talk Program. It would be wonderful to see lots of our school community attend so they can listen to our students – our Let’s Talk Buddies and the founder of the program Jetha Devapura, explain the ethos behind this program.
Next week our grade five and six students begin their seven-day swimming program. These lessons will be held at the Jack Hort Memorial Indoor Pool located at Healesville High School, and run for 40 minutes each. Each class has its own set lesson time, please ask your child’s teacher for exact times.
On Wednesday 28th May we are hold a Numeracy Night at school beginning at 6pm. This will be held in the classrooms throughout the school. Lots of fun activities are planned for all families to participate in. It will be a similar format to last year which was a very successful evening.
At school council on Tuesday night, it was decided to hold the department’s designated professional practice day on Friday 10th June so that it can be part of the long weekend as Monday 13th is a public holiday. This means that our students and their families have a four-day weekend. Friday 10th June is a pupil free day. Our staff will be onsite undertaking professional learning.
Take care – stay well.
Tracey
