Sayre Community Newsletter

COVID School Closure Edition 7

May 31, 2020

Greetings Sayre Community!

And just like that, we are headed towards the last stretch of the school year. While this year has been an eventful one, we are encouraged by the strength, perseverance and creativity our Sayre community has shown in the past few months. While this is not the school year anyone anticipated, we continue to make the most of it each and every day! The district has shared some important updates around grading, online summer school and graduation ceremonies which we share with you below. Please also take a minute to complete our survey (we fixed the early glitch) to let us know how distance learning is going and how we can continue to support you. Let's finish this school year strong!

In Solidarity,

Ms. Ade and Ms.Donatelli

4th Quarter Grading Guidance *Update*

Important Update:

Chicago Public Schools will be mailing out progress reports this week. If you have not received your child's progress report or 3rd quarter report card, please reach out to your child's teacher or email us at

While 4th quarter grading guidance provides for a FINAL grade of a letter grade, pass or incomplete, progress report will reflect the calculated grade earned by the students after the 5th week marking period. We will use these grades, in consultation with the grading guidance to determine the FINAL report card grade.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has granted that school districts may hold summer school classes online. If your child's performance or participation in online learning this year is deemed less than adequate, they will be recommended for summer learning which supports students in grades 1st-8th grade this year (formerly 3rd, 6th and 8th grade were eligible of summer school). This program will ensure that our students get the support they need to be successful in the coming school year.

If you are having difficulty engaging your child in online learning, please reach out to your child's teacher to creating a learning plan to ensure they are supported.
