Fifth Grade Newsletter

November 15, 2015

Dear Parents:

Thank you so much for attending Parent-Teacher Conferences last week! It was great to have an opportunity to discuss our students and their progress. The trimester ends this Friday.

We will finish reading Fish in a Tree this week and the students will be working on a "Make 10" project. They will have several different writing pieces and book-related projects to choose from, and they need to choose enough to make ten points. These projects will be due Tuesday, November 24. Please DO NOT feel you have to buy any special materials. Students can use what we have available in the classroom.

Social Studies

We are continuing our unit titled: Three Worlds Meet- Africa. Students have vocabulary flashcards to study. Thanks to Ellen's grandparents for teaching us all about Native Americans and their use of local resources.

This week begins the last week of the marking period. Students should turn in all missing work before the end of the week. Students will work on long division this week. We will plan on having a formative assessment over long division on Thursday to check for understanding.

We are continuing to study how plants make food.

The students should all have their Powerschool passwords, so they can check their own grades and share them with you. Access Powerschool through the website.

Book Fair

Miss Frank would like to thank the fifth and sixth grade students for all of their help with the book fair. It was the best one ever thanks to the book trailers they made and their help with the kindergarten wish lists!
