Gather up some family and let's do Club 45 at home!
Circle Time
Alright everyone, time to begin! Answer the following questions with your family:
- Your name
- Your number from 1-4 that tells us how you are...1 is not so good, 4 is great.
-
What's one person or possession that you treasure?
Find it in the Bible
In a physical Bible, or in a Bible app like YouVersion, look up Matthew 13:44-46. Read it together. Think and talk about this:
- What makes something a treasure?
- Why is a treasure valuable?
Time for our Bible Story!
Last week we learned about how Jesus performed a miracle and turned a couple of fish and some bread into enough food to easily feed 5,000 people. We talked about how easy it is to come up with our own solutions to problems, but this story taught us that we can lean on God and his power to help us. God is almighty and he can answer a broken and miserable problem in our lives with a beautiful miraculous solution. We’ve talked before about God’s kingdom and what that is. Let’s listen to today’s story as Jesus paints a picture of what God’s kingdom is and how beautiful it looks.
Let's think about that a little bit!
- In today’s story, what did Jesus say that God’s kingdom was like?
- Jesus defines the treasure of God’s kingdom for us. He said that God’s kingdom is wherever… what?
- Now think about today’s verses and the story: every treasure is costly, so let’s answer a couple of trick questions. First, what is Jesus’ treasure? What does he pay to ‘find’ us?
- Trick question number 2: what did Jesus say is ‘really’ our treasure? What does it cost us to follow him?
- What keeps us from recognizing that Jesus is our treasure?
- How did we figure out that the relationships we have or things we own are treasures?
Jesus can be our treasure right now! Listen to Jesus’ words from today’s story about the treasure of his kingdom: “God’s kingdom is wherever God is in charge. It’s where he fills your heart up with his Forever Happiness and you stop running away from him and you love him.” Let’s jump into our quiet moment with Jesus with and ask him to speak to us and give us pictures of who he is.
Quiet time - just you and Jesus
Find a spot where you and Jesus can chat.
We are going to take a few minutes of quiet for you to be with Jesus and to talk with him.
Our lives are full of so much noise and activity that sometimes it’s nice to just stop and listen for Jesus. Get comfortable, close your eyes and picture yourself with Jesus. Maybe picture you and Jesus by a lake, or sitting together on a rock, or curb, or in a flower patch. If you don’t have a picture, ask Jesus for one and he will show you! When we picture ourselves with Jesus in some way it helps our mind to focus on him instead of the other places our mind goes to like I’m hungry, I want to go home, I can’t wait to play with my friends later, or I love pizza and unicorns! Settle in with Jesus and talk with him. He loves to hear from you and it’s the best part of his day to be with you in this way. Tell him your thoughts, your fears, your worries, your dreams, hopes….just like a best friend….he wants to hear it all. Sometimes you will feel Jesus in different ways. Maybe he gives you his thoughts on something like someone just put in your brain what they think…that’s Jesus. You may feel His peace like a warm heavy blanket was just put on you. Maybe you have a picture come to your mind. We all experience Jesus in different ways. All of it you can ask Him about!
Family Choice Worship
Pick a song that your family enjoys and sing it to Jesus!
You can find one on YouTube, or even use one of our church's worship collaborations from the weekend worship on our YouTube channel.
If your family enjoys playing music together, find the music for a worship song and sing it together.
One of the coolest moments in the gospels comes right after Jesus takes communion with his disciples before he is crucified: they worship together. “Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives” (Mark 14:26). Even Jesus valued worship, so we should too! Sing to God- He loves it!
Communion
Take communion with your family. Pass out the elements, but before you take communion together, read 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. As a family, you’re remembering Jesus together! It’s truly a family meal with Jesus at the center. You can lead it!
Pray for each other
This story tells us how Jesus is really our treasure. Sometimes we’ve just never seen him that way. Sometimes we’ve seen Jesus as a Person or Boss who expects us to go to church, be good and not get in trouble, do a bunch of boring chores for him, or impress him. Who would like prayer today to see Jesus as our beautiful treasure?
Today’s story talked about how when we’re in God’s kingdom “we stop running from Jesus and we love him.” Who feels like they are running from Jesus? What fear is leading you to this? Who would like prayer to meet the Jesus who loves you and takes away your fears?
- Praying for your family members: How can I pray for you RIGHT NOW?
- Does anyone in your family need healing? Sick, allergies, cuts, bruises, runny nose, etc. Ask Jesus what he wants to heal and take a risk to pray for it!
