Ed White Community,
I hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy amidst our new reality. As we move towards the close of the school year, I want to outline two upcoming events below. It's sad for our staff that we're having to end the year in such a "distanced" way, but we look forward to honoring your student, even if it's from afar.
Reminder that all work is due no later than May 20th. If you need to drop off work earlier (starting on May 18th), there will be a location for you to do that. Because we have to sort the work and then return it to teachers to be graded and finalized before the close of the school year, we can't extend this due date beyond May 20th. We are still limited with the amount of staff that are allowed on campus, and we need help in sticking to these deadlines. Online work is still due May 20th. Teachers will continue instruction through May 28 with a focus on reteach, review, and course protection post May 20. They will still be available for questions or concerns through May 28th.
On Skyward, you will notice that this last 9-week period has letter grades instead of numerical grades. If your child has a "Pr" or "APr," they are "Proficient" or "Approaching Proficient" in that subject area. This is what we're striving for during our distance learning. I would encourage that if you see an "I" for "Incomplete," you reach out to the teacher. This alpha grading system will also carry for their final "grade" for the school year. If your child qualifies for course recovery or summer school, you will be contacted by school leadership in the upcoming weeks with further information. All additional summer school programs will continue to be held in a distance learning structure.
This new learning environment has brought its challenges with it, and we understand distance learning can't entirely take the place of students in our classrooms. We are taking that into consideration, and teachers and staff are looking at the child holistically, knowing that there will be shortcomings and gaps we will have to work to address when we come back in the fall, no matter what that looks like.
We couldn't do this without you. Thank you, community, for being our support system from afar. Thank you for your patience. I am truly honored to be your principal.
Always an Eagle,
Bethany Lorge
Item Pick-Up
- 6th Grade (Ed White and DATA): Monday, May 18, 2020
- 7th Grade (Ed White and DATA): Tuesday, May 19, 2020
- 8th Grade (Ed White and DATA): Wednesday, May 20, 2020
We ask that you follow these guidelines:
- You must stay inside your vehicle. If you walk to campus and will be walking the loop, please make sure you honor social distancing and wear a face covering.
- Your child must be present to get belongings. They may arrive with you or another designated adult of your choosing. However, if your child isn't present with you, identification will be checked. Belongings will only be returned to guardians if child isn't present.
- If you have multiple children that attend Ed White, go on the day assigned for the grade level of your eldest child.
- You will have a place to drop off your packet during the drive-thru. Although we set the return date for May 20th, we're encouraging you to drop off ANY and ALL completed packets when you come through your designated day of the drive-thru. If you need the additional time, you will be able to return to campus and drop off the packet without having to go through the entire drive-thru again.
