War Food Shortages
Confederacy and Union suffering from food shortages!!
The three main factors of the food shortages:
1. The drain of manpower in the army.
2. The Union occupation of food-growing areas.
3. The loss of slaves to work in fields.
The families in the south rioted for bread.
There are no slaves to work in the fields to grow food.
Hundreds of men and women rioted and took food.
Families normally were paying $6.65 a month for food, and now the monthly food prices will be raised to about $68 a month.
