A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Terrace Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to our staff and students! I had a wonderful winter break but missed Terrace. I am so happy to be back with the staff and students and seeing their wonderful smiling faces again. They make Terrace so special. I am looking forward to January as it will have us very busy.
I would like to say Thank you to our Terrace PTO. This first half of the school year our PTO has been working so hard. They have planned numerous fundraisers, supported staff, written and received grants, and have organized some fantastic parent events. The parent nights of Fall Bingo and Ornament Making were a huge success. It was so nice to see so many families attend these heartwarming events. Thank you PTO and I can’t wait to see what 2023 will bring to Terrace. You are so wonderful and appreciated!
I am excited for 2023 and all the possibilities that are ahead for our students as we work hard to continue our learning through the remainder of the school year. Thank you for all you do to support and contribute to your student’s learning. Terrace is Awesome!
Yours in Education,
Sheila Schmidt
Principal
NURSE KAYLEE'S CORNER
Sometimes it becomes difficult to decide whether or not to send your child to school. Here are some guidelines to help.
Your child should not be in school if any of the following conditions exist:
Fever- temperature should be normal for 24 hours before returning to school without the use of fever-reducing medications (tylenol, motrin, etc)
Diarrhea- students should be diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours.
Vomiting- students should not have vomited in the last 24 hours and they should be able to drink and eat without becoming ill before returning to school.
Please also consider:
Any illness that prevents the student from participating comfortably in activities.
Illness that causes a need for care that is greater than the staff can provide without compromising the health and safety of other children.

GUIDELINES FOR VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS~ VIPS
Friendship Parties are right around the corner!! Don't forget to get signed up to help!
Applying to volunteer is a four-step process:
- Step 1- A background check for volunteering within the Ankeny School District is required every 5 years. Once you fill this out it will let you know if you have already filled out a background check in the last 5 years.
- Step 2- The Volunteer Handbook must be completed before you plan to volunteer and must be completed each year.
- Step 3 -You must create an account and include Terrace as a school you want to volunteer at. (On the left side of the page.)
- Step 4- After you do the above 3 steps you will then be able to see and sign up for volunteer events that are available at Terrace. Here is the link to the page
DROP OFF AND PICKUP
Your students need to be at school by 8:10 or 8:25 for the morning classes depending on their teacher and by 11:40 or 11:55 depending on their teacher for the afternoon classes. Caregivers are to walk their student up to their designated drop-off location and wait with the student until the teacher arrives.
ONLY daycares are to use the dropoff spot in the front of the building.
If a caregiver is dropping off their student late or picking up early, they are to come to the main office, door E1. Staff members will assist the student in getting to and from the classroom.
Please remember that pets are not allowed on school grounds.
Please do not park in spots that are not actual parking spots. It makes it difficult for others to get in, out and around their cars.
