Principal's Message
Dear Boone School Community,
As recent events unfold, I am heartbroken and overwhelmed with all there is to be done in our work towards creating a society that is free of racism and fear. Against the backdrop of the pandemic and current economic crisis, the historic pain that has been felt by so many for so long is now reaching deep into the hearts of Americans, as our nation reacts to the ongoing senseless murders of black people in our country.
While we have focused heavily this year on equity for all at Boone School, we know there is still so much more work to be done here at Boone, in Chicago, in our country, and throughout the world. Our role as educators has never been more clear: we must continue to seek powerful ways to be a part of the solution for creating an anti-racist society where all people can live free from oppression and thrive.
CPS has just released Say Their Names, for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless others that came before. All staff have been provided with this toolkit to help foster productive conversations, and we invite the entire community to utilize this resource. Teachers and teams are working to create lessons and hold classroom circles that will provide spaces for students to share and discuss. We welcome your ideas for framing these discussions, and also encourage you to reach out with any concerns.
Being away from Boone during this time makes discussing these events difficult. We know that COVID and school closures have already taken a toll on our mental health, but we will remain strong and steadfast and will address these challenges with urgency and clarity. We are here to represent and support our diverse population of students and families. We will channel our focus as educators and teach our children what it means to live in a just and equitable society. Through our collective efforts, we will move forward together to create a better future.
With gratitude,
Jackie Delaney, Principal
Jackie Delaney, Directora
