From School Administration
The Lisbon PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders, and community members is important to the success of our students and school. We are excited to announce that we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program for this coming year. We want to strengthen our partnership between our PTA and our school so that we can enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students.
As a school, we feel that families should feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and the PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. We feel Lisbon Elementary School and the Lisbon PTA can achieve that together—and the result will be national, state, and community-wide visibility for the positive impact we are making together at Lisbon Elementary School.
We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families, administrators, and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. Your feedback will help us improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.
Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete the survey below. Choose from the drop-down menu for each question. The survey will be open through Sunday, October 17.
Does this sound like a PTA program you’d really like to help with? Join us! Contact either of us to learn more.
Sincerely,
Debra Anoff, Principal
Cathy Datz, PTA President

NEW INFORMATION
Lisbon Halloween Celebrations
Halloween Parade
This year's Halloween Parade and classroom activities have been adjusted due to COVID-19 and Howard County's updated guidelines regarding school visitors, which state "visitors are not permitted to attend events that occur indoors or outdoors during the school day."
On Friday, October 29, 2021, Lisbon ES will celebrate Halloween with a few adjustments. Our annual parade and classroom activities will be limited to students and staff only. With all the guidelines in place, classrooms will have fall activities but unfortunately we will be unable to have food. Due to logistical concerns, student costumes MUST fit over top of your child's clothing so they can get dressed inside the classroom and independently. Please think through your child's costume choice, as they will need to put it on with little to no assistance. Mask mandates are still in effect, therefore we ask that you think about any costume masks that your child will be wearing over their face mask.
Please review the following reminders/updates.
- Any costumes that perpetuate violence, have any blood, gore, scary masks, or contain any type of weapons are prohibited. Props that come with costumes that are “play weapons” are not allowed in school. This includes but is not limited to toy guns, knives, swords, sickles, pitchforks, etc.
- If you prefer that your child does not take part in the parade, please send a note to your child’s teacher or contact Mrs. Anoff at debra_anoff@hcpss.org.
- Thank you for your cooperation.

LISBON ELEMENTARY FLU VACCINATION CLINIC THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28TH
THE FLU VACCINATION CLINIC IS FOR LISBON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS & STAFF ONLY!
Flu vaccinations are coming to your child’s school. They will be given at NO CHARGE TO YOU. Now, more than ever, it is important to protect your family through vaccinations.

Influenza, also known as the flu, is a serious illness that affects people of all ages. One of the best ways to prevent the flu is through vaccinations. We are pleased to join with the Maryland Partnership for Prevention (MPP) to offer flu vaccinations at our school.
You may give permission for your child to be vaccinated using an online form at https://tinyurl.com/HoCPSSFlu2021.
We urge you to protect your family from the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older get a flu shot. Please visit www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm for more information about the flu vaccine.
Please contact the health room directly at 410-313-5555 for any further information.

This is a temporary position for the remainder of this school year. Temporary employees work on all days when students are in school, and are paid at an hourly rate. The hours are 8:35 a.m.-3:05 p.m. This position is great for a member of our community who wants to work while their children are in school. Temporary employees are contracted through a third-party agency and assigned to work with students to provide close adult supervision. If you are interested in learning more about the position, please contact Ms. Wright at lashonne_wright@hcpss.org or 410-313-5506.
Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15 is celebrated nationwide as National Hispanic Heritage Month. It traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. During this month and throughout the year, we, and our partners, share history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present.
Hispanic refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a Spanish-speaking country.
Latino/a or Latinx refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a country in Latin America.
Referenced from hispanicheritagemonth.gov
This month we will be exploring Hispanic Heritage Month through a variety of ways during our Morning Circles with the use of greetings, through rich literature by authors who are Hispanic or Latino, and/or through writing.
Check out these websites for more information about Hispanic Heritage Month and how you can celebrate virtually and at home!
