Elementary and Grades 4, 5 and 6 Teachers, Social Studies, History and Alternative Educators

About the Presentation:

Timelines: History in Perspective- An Auditory, Visual, and Kinesthetic Learning Unit

Participants will experience a project-oriented exploration of the fifty most important events in American History through multiple learning styles. In this student-centered approach teachers will guide the class in constructing manipulatives that are both visual and kinesthetic that will help students understand the order of events, their connection, and importance. Teachers will construct sample timelines and notebooks, explore ways to put the march of history into perspectives that students can grasp, experience study techniques, and share evaluation methods that uphold academic rigor while encouraging student involvement in their own learning.


8:00-8:30 Check-In

8:30-11:30 During this session, participants will be involved in a demonstration and creation of a cross-disciplinary unit, and if time allows, see other units that the presenter has developed.

About the Presenter:

Paul Curtis has been an Elementary and Special Education teacher in ten different schools in New Hampshire, Maine, Montana and British Columbia. Over the past forty years he has developed cross-curricular, experiential units and materials and is eager to share what he has learned along the way with colleagues who believe that students achieve more through activities in which they are engaged and accountable for their learning.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation should be made in writing. A full refund will be made for cancellations postmarked, or sent via email, 7 days before the event.

No refunds will be given for requests received after 7 days before the event, or for "no shows". We do accept substitution of another person at our conference. 24 hours of notification is appreciated.

All received registrations are subject to Cancellation/Refund policy. Cost of registration fee is still liable whether payment is paid or unpaid, if no notice of cancellation is received at least 7 days prior to the event.

If minimum requirement enrollment is not met prior to the early registration deadline, the event may be postponed or canceled.
