Cardinal Family Newsletter
It's A Great Day to Be a Cardinal!
Parent Newsletter: December 17
Dear FFMS Students, Parents and Guardians:
Happy Monday. It's hard to believe we will be wrapping up second quarter this week. There are a lot of great things happing at FFMS as you will read.
I wish all the Cardinal families a memorable winter break filled with relaxing and quality family time! We will resume school on January 7th.
Happy Holidays!
Mrs. Hiler
Shout Out to Mrs. Francis
Mrs. Francis said this was one of her scariest moments in her twenty years of teaching. There is no education that can prepare you for a moment like this.

Eighth Grade December Project
FFMS 8th graders aren’t waiting to come up with ideas to change the world. During the week of December 17, the students will be taking part in a project, largely of their own design. Using the design process, they will complete the question, “How can we help _ have a merrier Christmas or happier winter?” Then, they will brainstorm and design solutions for the problem they identify.
Students will have lots of resources available to support their work. Felicity-Franklin’s new Cardinal Active Learning Lab includes 3D printers and a laser cutter/engraver to assist students with making their online designs come to life. Teachers will support students with high-tech and low-tech parts of their project - from learning to code an app or design a website, to developing tangible products to help the needy.
Students spend a lot of time in school being asked questions that the teacher already knows the answer to. This project will allow students to actively develop their own questions, come up with their own answers, and take part in real-world experiences. The 8th grade team, Mrs. Henson, Mrs. Maupin, Mr. Ogden, Mrs. Pollitt, and Mrs. Roehm, are excited to see what the students come up with. Additional support for student projects will be available from Mrs. Francis, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, and Mr. Roush, Technology Integration Specialist.
“It’s a little scary sometimes, giving the students that much say over the direction they want to go,” said Mrs. Pollitt. “But, if we want them to take ownership of their work, it has to be something they are interested in and want to work on.”
Students will have time across four days to design, refine, and complete their proposed solutions. “The holidays are a great time to reflect on how fortunate we are, and how we can use the skills and talents we have to help others,” said Mr. Roush. “That’s a skill that will take you a long way in life.”
Be watching the district Live Feed and social media accounts for more about these exciting student-led projects!
